Kali's life didn't really start until she was eleven. Sure, she had been born and raised, not by good people, but she had been raised. If that's what you would call it, that is. But her life didn't truly start until she was visited by a man and a woman by the names of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. They had stopped in to visit a family friend by the name of Brutus, who ran the orphanage poor Kali was put in. The girl hadn't spoken or even looked at any of the people of the orphanage when she was brought in. She just stared down at her hands as she played with, what looked like a voodoo doll. Narcissa had noticed her first and saw how scared and sad she looked. She walked over as Lucius talked with Brutus and sat down in front of her.
"You look tired, honey." Kali didn't look up and Lucius and Brutus looked over. Brutus hurried over and shook his head and waved his hands.
"Don't mess with the girl, she isn't for sale." Lucius saw the way Narcissa looked at him and Lucius hit his cane on Brutus's foot.
"You mustn't speak that way about a kid. She is a girl, not a dog."
"Sorry Mr. Malfoy, that's not what I meant. I mean... Well, I don't really know what I mean by it all. It is a strange situation really. She was brought in by a complete stranger at the age of five. He said that he didn't know who she was and that she was just walking down the street alone. We tried to talk to her, but she hasn't spoken a word except to the man that brought her in. All she said was that she couldn't talk to strangers. Also, she was rambling on about a man that didn't even have human features. She is a weird girl for sure -I mean that in the nicest way possible, sir." Lucius stared at Narcissa who gave warm looks to the girl. It was clear by the look on her face that the girl was interesting to her. Lucius pulled her aside and Narcissa smiled up at him, which made him confused on what he should do.
"She is a beautiful and lonely little girl, Lucius. What happens when she reaches an age where she can't stay here anymore? Lucius, we can't just stand here and not take her home. Look at her." They both looked back at the girl, who stayed in the exact same position she was in. They both looked back at each other and Lucius sighed and shook his head.
"Narcissa, Draco is already a problem as it is. We... we can't handle another one." Narcissa frowned and looked back at the little girl.
"But Lucius, maybe this could be good for Draco. Maybe him being an only child is his problem. He doesn't have someone as young as him to look up to." Lucius took her words into consideration and remembered what it was like for him as a kid and nodded his head.
"Alright, but we need to really buckle down and do our best for this girl." Narcissa was already planning on it. She was going to treat this girl like her own daughter. Narcissa and Lucius walked back over and Brutus gulped like a cartoon character.
"We want to take her home," Narcissa said and kneeled down in front of Kali.
"I don't think that is such a good idea, Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy. I really don't think you-" He was interrupted by Lucius hitting his shin with his cane.
"What is her name?" Lucius asked and kneeled down in front of her as well. They both stared up at her as she continued to stare at the voodoo doll.
"Her name is Kali. We don't know her last name." Narcissa was excited. She was finally going to be able to help Draco and give this poor girl a home in the process.
"Kali, my name is Narcissa and this is Lucius. How would you like to come home with us?" At first, nothing happened, she just kept looking at the ground. But then she finally looked up at them. She had the most green eyes you could ever see in a child of eleven years. Narcissa and Lucius stared into her eyes, both caught off guard by the green of them.
