(Prologe 3/?)

I quickly leave the kitchen and head towards Yuu. “Here you are, it’s still hot so be careful.” I say before sitting down and pulling out my phone, I pull up YourMusic and put my earbuds in. Yuu thanks me before digging into the curry.

I sit across from Yuu in the booth, my back against the wall that it’s next to. I lean my head back as I relax to my music.

After a couple songs play before I check the time. I take my earbuds off and stand up.

“We have about six minutes till the bird wants us back in the library.” I state as Yuu gets up as well, finishing the rest of the curry quickly. “That’s disposable so feel free to throw it in the trash.” I say before walking towards the cafeteria door. Yuu follows after me, trashing the bowl and exiting with me.

The walk to the library was short and quiet, a comfortable silence one might say. We reach the library quickly, entering and sitting down.

I grab one of the books that I left and start reading.

After about ten minutes Yuu starts looking around confused. “The bird is normally late. I wouldn’t count on him being here within the next--” I look up at the clock. “-- twenty to twenty-five minutes. It’d be best to grab a book and start reading.” I say and go back to my reading. “Oh..” Yuu mutters.

I see Yuu get up from his seat through my peripheral vision. They walk over to the book shelves and start looking through them.

After a few minutes of looking through the books they come back to the table empty handed. “Umm M-Ms?”

“You can call me Y/n,” I say, my focus still on the book in my hands. “Y/n, are there any other books in the same language as the one you gave me earlier?” Yuu asks, fiddling with his fingers.

I close my book and set it on the table. “I’m assumming you can’t read Japanese.” Yuu looks down, now focussed on the floor.

I stand up and make my way down one of the aisles at the far end of the library. I stop about halfway down the aisle, running my index finger across the spines of the books. After a bit of searching, I found what I was looking for. Taking a couple of the books off the shelves before heading back to the table.

I set the books down on the table, Yuu looks up at me as I start to talk. “Normally children would learn to read and write Japanese first. But seeing as you’re not from Twisted Wonderland, I’ll teach you.”

“Twisted Wonderland?” They ask with a tilt of his head. I sit down, open a book and turn it towards Yuu.

“It’s the name of this world. It was originally called ‘Gallus’. But at the start of the Magic Era, when people started gaining magic, they renamed it ‘Twisted Wonderland’. Prossumably because things were now, in a sense, ‘twisted’. Though I don’t know where ‘wonderland’ fit in with the naming.”

Yuu looks at me, engaged in the topic. I chuckle a bit before continuing. “Like I said, people here normally learn latin as a common language for everyone. English is one of the languages that isn’t commonly written in, realy anywhere. But, to your luck, this school always keeps a couple books to teach each language.”

They look down at the book a bit confused. “This book is one that translates Japanese to English. English is generally, when concerning writings and readings, a dead language. It’s commonly spoken, but it’s harder to find books and articls writen in it.”

Yuu looks a bit confused as they stare at the book. “Lucky for you, I’m fluent in its written language. I can write some tips and tricks for you, but it’ll take a while. So until then, I’ll teach you in our free time.”
