Mickey's POV
So you got everything white and navy blue?" Kate asks as me and Chelsea show her all the party decor. We nod and I rub the back of my neck, nervous she won't approve.
"This is perfect! Especially because it isn't kiddish but it doesn't look like it's for a senior party."
"Is she turning 16 or 17?" I ask. They look at me and I shrug.
"She never told me." I explain.
"She is turning 16. Remember she is always a few months behind you."I nod and she looks around.
"We can't have it here. It's her sixteenth." Kate shakes her head in disapproval.
"How about at the activity center. The views of the beach are good and it can be semi formal." I suggest.Kate hugs me and I hug back. She gives me a look of approval before loading everything in her car.
"Keep her busy. And take her shopping for a dress. Don't tell her why." Chelsea demands.
Without another word, all five of them leave. I go up to Kathwren's room and shake her awake. She groand and I chucks.
"Happy Birthday." I say trying to give her a kiss.
"I have morning breath and I will not be kissing anybody without brushing my teeth." She giggles, getting up.Wren's POV
I get ready before meeting Michael downstairs."Hey,Mickey." I joke.
"Don't push it birthday girl." He laughs.I laugh and look at the scene in front of me.
"You're cooking?" I ask.
"Yes, eggs and bacon." He tells me like it's a fact.I give him a look and he gives me a pout.
"What? You don't think I can cook?" He asks.
"I've never seen you cook. I've never seen you do anything for that matter." I giggle. He gives me a fake hurt looks and I smile. He hands me a plate and I look at it. The food looks fine. It even smells good. I take a bite and smile. It tastes amazing.
"I think I just found your hidden talent." I state, taking another bite.
"I have so many, it'll take a lifetime to learn them all."
"Well I hope that I will be with you for that long. That way we can show each other our secrets." I smile. He kisses me and I kiss back.
"So what's the plan?" I ask him, smirking.
"I'm taking you shopping for a dress." Is his answer.
"Why?" I ask, chuckling at the odd assignment.
"You'll see."We get to the dress shop after a lot of questioning. She eventually gives up and goes to look for a casual dress. She takes multiple in a dressing room and I wait.
"What about this one?" She asks.
I put my head up and laugh. She is wearing a bright green sparkling gown.
"First of all, I said casual. Second of all, if you show up in that you will look like a nut."
She goes back in and I wait again.
Wren's POV
I try on ten dresses before trying on the aqua party dress. I slip it on and zip it up before looking into the mirror. I smile as I see it. It is simple but it looks like a million bucks on me."Wren, are you done?" Michael asks.
I answer yes and exit the changing room. I shrug and smile.
"Wow, that looks amazing." He says, shocked.
I bite my lip and look down.
"Really?"
"Yes, that has to be the dress you get." He demands.I giggle and nod. I go back in to get on my regular clothes. I hand Michael the dress so he can pay for it while I'm getting ready.
"Ready to go?" He asks as I walk up to him.
"Yep." I smile. He grabs my hand and pulls me out.
"Michael." I say.
"Yea?" He asks.
"I don't have shoes to match and I spent all my money on it."He laughs and pulls us towards the shoes store. I look through the racks of shoes but I can't find a single pair that would match my dress.
"What about these?" He calls from a few isles away.
I go to him and I look at the shoes.
"These are perfect!" I exclaim.
They were aqua with white straps and bows on the top. We pay for them and exit the store.
"Now what?" I ask.
"We go home and get ready." He answers.
"For what?" I whine.
"You'll see." He answers simply.I groan and stomp to the car. I am silent the whole way home and he keeps laughing at me. We get home and I race upstairs. I plug in my curling iron and grab my makeup. I do light makeup including a nude lipstick. I curl my hair and pin up both sides. Then, I go to my room and slip on the dress and shoes. I grab a white handheld purse and walk downstairs. Michale is wearing black slacks, I button up covered by a navy blue sweaters, and dress shoes.
"You look... Whoa."
I laugh.
"You look whoa, too."
He laughs and kisses me. He grabs my hand and pulls me out to the car. We start the drive and I get more agitated by the minute.
"Why are we going towards the beach? Where are we going?" I whine.
"You will see. I'm not backing down."I cross my arms over my chest and pout. He pulls up into the activity center parking lot and I give him a look. He simply gets out, goes around the car, and opens my door. I grab his hand and he pulls me into the building.
"Michael it's dark in here." I whine.
Then I realize he isn't holding my hand anymore.
"Micheal? Michael, come one this isn't-"
"SURPRISE!"The lights turn on and everyone I know pops up. I cover my hands with my mouth and look around. The entire place is decorated navy blue and white. Fairy lights are hanging from every wall and beam in the place. Chealsea, Kate, and Michael each give me a hug, saying happy birthday.
"Dad?" I sigh.
He is sitting in a wheel chair behind everyone.
"Hey, birthday girl." He smiles.
I cry and hug him. He has been in the hospital since the night he got really bad.
"Hi, Daddy."
He sits me in his lap amd rolls over to the cake that says ' Happy 16 Kathwren!'
"I have some exciting news!" He tells me.
"What?" I ask.
"I had a surgery done and they got rid of my cancer."I cry even harder and hug him again. Everyone sings happy birthday to me and I smile, loving the awkward moment.
"Happy birthday." I hear Michael whisper.
I turn around and kiss him. This day couldn't have been better.
