Guys, I'm so sorry this took over a week to finish. I've been busy lately and when I find time to work on this story, I end up having writer's block. If future chapters take this much time to be published, I'm sorry in advance. Okay, go ahead, read the chapter, I'm done talking for now.
"A... magician?" Sapphire echoed in astonishment. Her body was paralyzed in surprise and disbelief, however she remained completely unaware; her brain had completely shut off. She couldn't focus on the scrambling thoughts in her head. All she could do was stare at Aunt Delia's emotionless face.
No way, she thought, She has to be joking, right? Magicians aren't real... But, didn't I just see Delia do some sort of magic spell with the paper airplane? Sapphire looked down at the enchanted paper plane still resting on her thigh. Her head was clouded with confusing thoughts, and she blinked, debating whether or not Delia was lying. No, she can't possibly do magic because she's just a normal human being. Or maybe Delia is right, she knows more about my mom than I do... She looked up at Delia.
"My mom isn't a magician. She can't be," Sapphire argued doubtfully, staring into Aunt Delia's eyes. "I've never seen her do any spells o-or magic or anything like that!"
"But that doesn't mean she isn't hiding it from you," Delia replied with a calm expression on her face, smiling gently.
Sapphire was at a loss for words. Finally, she asked softly, "Why...why would she hide it from me?"
Before Aunt Delia could respond, Sapphire impatiently blurted out another question that popped in her head. "Who else can do magic?"
Delia leaned back comfortably, her eyes darting to the ceiling while she pondered. Finally she spoke, "Let's see... Your father can do magic," Him too? Sapphire thought, shocked. How many people are hiding this from me? Aunt Delia continued. "My husband and my two sons are magicians too. Of course, I know more, but I'm assuming you don't know them."
"Your sons too?" Sapphire said, confused.
"Yep," she answered as she watched Sapphire tap on the chair arm rhythmically with her fingers. "I teach them spells and charms, but there are still things they need to learn." Sapphire stopped drumming her fingers on the leather chair.
Before she could say anything further, Delia glanced at Sapphire's deep green eyes and said, "You could also ask your parents about this subject by messaging them," she placed the small leather book in Sapphire's hands. Sapphire glanced at the enchanted paper airplane that was still perched on her leg and picked it up. "I have to continue cooking dinner, alright? We can talk about this afterwards if you want." Aunt Delia stretched as she stood up from the green couch.
As soon as she disappeared from sight, Sapphire exhaled. Magicians. My parents are fucking magicians. Sapphire's thoughts grew bitter as she became frustrated. Why didn't they tell me? She got up, running a hand through her hair. The trust between her and her parents collapsed; Sapphire stormed out of the living room and stomped up the stairs, crumpling the paper airplane in her clenched fist. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a tall figure leaning against the wooden railing near the top of the stairs. Sapphire cursed under her breath. It was Nathan. Him again? She thought irritatedly. She stole another glance at him. He was gazing at her but this time, Sapphire didn't bother to look away. She glared at him as if to say 'Get out of my sight' and clutched the book tighter in her hands.
When Sapphire reached the top, she jerked around to face Nathan. "What the hell you do want from me?" She squeezed the paper airplane in her clammy fist tightly, still staring daggers at him.
