The weekend was over in the blink of an eye. All of us at home were tense because of the trial on Monday. Dad made Soren and I dress up formally just like Praise had told him to. I was wearing a collared white shirt and black trousers. Soren wore a suit.
"Ade and Soren, remember what Praise told you," dad said. Praise told you that Isabelle Reynolds is one of the best defense lawyers in the country. She will do whatever it takes to get Sabrina Barre out of jail. Let's not allow that to happen.
We left the house before 8:00 a.m. after having breakfast. Dad drove us to the Court house. There were reporters outside waiting.
"Can you tell us what you hope for?" A reporter asked mom.
"I hope that justice is served and Sabrina Barre gets what she deserves," she said.
"What about your husband, he knew about Sabrina being the acid attacker but said nothing," another reporter continued. Shouldn't he be punished for being an accomplice?
"Sabrina Barre threatened my husband, he had no choice but to stay silent" mom said.
"Let's go in," dad told mom.
We left the reporters outside. Luckily, they weren't allowed inside the courtroom.
Praise Kwakye was already inside the courtroom reading a document. The prosecutor Michael Davies was talking to some people. Mom and dad told us to take our seats in the gallery. They both went to meet Praise.
"Addie, I am scared that Sabrina will be released," Soren said.
Have faith. I believe she will be found guilty.
My friends joined us in the gallery. First Jensen, then Tendai and Eloise came in last. They hugged me and wished me all the best. Kemi came to court with her three uncles, Andrew, Liz, Mae and Raven. Her two uncles were twins. These were the men who have been orchestrating the attacks on our family! I wish they too would get convicted for attacking us but alas there was no evidence pinning them.
Sabrina Barre was brought in by two police men. She came in with Isabelle Reynolds. Isabelle was a woman who looked to be in her 50's and didn't smile. Sabrina sat next to Isabelle in front of the jury box. Mom was seated in between me and Soren behind Michael Davies's table. Tendai, Eloise and Jensen were seated in the behind row. Kemi and her uncles sat directly behind Sabrina, dad and their lawyers Isabel Reynolds and Praise Kwakye. Mae, Andrew, Liz and Raven sat behind them in the second row. The different court staff sat in their designated places. I knew the roles of each court staff because of the law dramas I had watched on the weekend.
"All rise for the honorable Judge," the court bailiff said. We all stood up. A woman with a wig on her head entered the courtroom and sat in the Judge's chair. Then we sat down.
