I waited all day to hear from someone that I had been found kissing Grayson but no one said a thing. I felt relieved. In the evening, I stayed behind to watch Tendai practice. It was my chance to watch Grayson practice too. The game went great today, Grayson didn't try to provoke Tendai. They played a good game.
"Grayson, today you were so calm, whatever it is you're doing to overcome your anger issues, continue doing it," I heard the coach say. The match ended and I went to class to collect my bag. I heard cries coming from the year twelve class. I picked my bag and went to see who was crying. Keren was crying. Brielle and Lily-belle were comforting her.
What is the matter? "Keren is crying because Qadir won't talk to her," Lily-belle said.
Why? "He says it's because I am a Zionist," Keren said.
What is wrong with being a Zionist?
"Muslims and Israelis don't see eye to eye," Brielle said.
How were you able to meet him, the last time I remember, you were trying to find a way of contacting him?
"He found me on Instagram," Keren said. He figured that Jensen and I might be following each other there. He was right. We've been texting since Friday. He asked me what my heritage was. I told him I was an Israeli. He told me that it was over between us. Just like that.
I felt sorry for Keren, she was really sad. Who cares if you are Muslim and Israeli? Love knows no race and faith.
"I wish you could tell him that!" Keren said. I like Qadir, I thought something would blossom out of the feelings we have been experiencing but I guess I was wrong. I don't mind his nationality and religion, being Syrian isn't a deal breaker to me. Why should my being Israeli be a deal breaker to him?
I will see if I can talk to him when I have the chance to , Keren.
Keren felt hopeful after I told her that I would talk to Qadir. This improved her mood.
I joined Tendai outside in the parking lot. We used an uber home. "Goodnight," he said.
Mom opened the door for me. "Addie, who did you come with?" she asked.
"Nobody," I lied. I came in an uber.
"You're lying, Addie," she said. Because I saw someone kiss you before the car drove off. Was that Tendai?
I lied to mom, I didn't want to tell you that I am dating someone else.
"You're lying again, I know the person who dropped you off is Tendai," she said. I saw how he behaved with you during the trial. I will remind you if you've forgotten about what you saw him and his parents do at his home. You were warned by Pastor Stuart never to get back together.
Mom, Tendai converted to Christianity for me.
"What do his parents say about it?" mom asked.
He told me that they are unhappy but respect his decision.
