It had been five years already since Samantha started dating Elijah according to him, he had been crushing on her for a long time before finally confessing to her.

At that time, she desperately needed emotional support so she hastily accepted the stranger she thought she knew.

Samantha's father abandoned her , her brother and their mother.

Their mother had to work very hard to fend for them until she met her eventual death.

In order not to add to her mother's problems, Samantha had to bottle up most of her feelings, that was why she needed a relationship but ended up doing the same thing to survive her relationship with Elijah.

She had been taking up several jobs at once after her mother's passing in order to take care of herself, her brother and of course her stay at home boyfriend.

She hadn't broken up with him despite the physical and verbal abuse because she didn't want to be alone, but his spending lately was beginning to take a toll on her bank account.

Ever since her brother found out Elijah had been hitting her , he confronted him, he ended up making Elijah angrier and got hit too.

Elijah got upset that she reported him to her brother so from that time, her life became worse.

Gabe stopped visiting for a while and only visited whenever Elijah wasn't around.

He felt bad for his sister that this man who was not benefitting his sister in anyway was leaching her. He blamed himself because his sister was going through all this to take care of him.

   THAT SAME WEEK ......
KANURI HOUSING.....
APARTMENT 213....

Gabe visited Samantha, the way her jobs were built, she was free everyday very early in the  morning and late at night, so he made use of the opportunity to see her.....

she'd usually wait for Elijah to return from wherever he went to at night or would just eat dinner alone if she was tired.....

Gabe dropped his aged back pack on the couch and walked over to meet his sister in the kitchen, he had a sad look on his face but eased up when he saw his sister.

"Gabe...you didn't go to school today?". She asked in a low tone wiping her small hands on the apron tied around her small waist.

"The tuition, I can't go to school without it, I have to write my promotional exams soon...." He paused examining his sister who was lost in thoughts.

"If you don't have it then don't worry, I'll quit school and learn some sort of trade to help you-"

"No. I told you not to work and focus on school, I'll get another job-".

"Another job, don't you have a lot already? Where is that man anyway ". He asked scanning the environment.

"Elijah...he went out". She replied immediately understanding who he was talking about.

"He's almost always never around, he's absent when he doesn't even have a job.

While you're busy working your ass out, he's nowhere to be seen to even support you and you never cared to ask what made him leave the house so early in the morning?-".

"Do you really want him to be around right now?". She asked annoyed.

"I've told you severally to accord him with some respect, when we get married he-"

"Married? I know you're obsessed with him right now, but were you really planning on getting married to someone like that? Are you under a spell? Or is it so hard to see things clearly".

He looked at her, trying to understand what was going on in her head.

Being with someone like that for life was something worse than a curse, who in their right mind would wish something like that for themselves.

"Gabe, that's enough, you're here for me right? Then please leave Elijah out of our discussion ". She warned him angrily.

"Fine. I brought something ". He went over to his bag and brought a plastic bag out of it. He dropped the bag on the table before them, inside were food packed in boxes and some other items.

"What's this, have you been saving your money to buy stuff like this? You should eat this instead, I'm fine already, you can save your money for other things ".

She opened the plastic bag again packing the food and drinks back into it, he held her hand to stop her ,making her raise her head to look at him in confusion.

"I bought them for you, Mitchell and his parents have been taking good care of me so I don't need anything else but I know with the bills you have to take care of, you barely take care of yourself, have it or else I won't leave".

Ever since the trouble with Elijah, Gabe had been living with a good friend of his.

The boy's parents had equally been taking good care of him, so his basic needs were handled such that Samantha didn't have to worry too much about him.

He took the dishes from her and put them into the fridge. "This should last you for the entire week with the way you eat-"

"I'll send the tuition soon so don't worry too much ". She assured standing up, she knew he was worried about it but wouldn't let it show.

"If you can't meet up let me know so I can find a job, I'll go now okay?". He smiled and patted her head, she smiled back.

"Thank you." She said as she watched him leave .

When he left, she turned to look at the fridge and smiled, tears filled her eyes, and her heart was throbbing, she should work harder so her brother wouldn't suffer.

She brings out her phone and begins searching for job vacancies, if the pay was good enough, she could drop one of her other jobs.

She'd need a job good enough to pay for her house bills, Gabe's tuition fees, Elijah's spending and of course she had to pay off the debts he had acquired in her name trying to handle his own unnecessary spending.

She sank into the couch trying to figure out what to do.
