I'd always thought
That I'd be first
To disappear
Into that long sleep
When you were with me
You were my everything
What food can nourish?
What water can quench me?
You were the sun I hadn't seen
In the 2 years since my sentence
You were the coconut half that
Shielded me from bitter voyeurs
From sharks with eyes they stole from you
From cold and lonely nights
Suffocating darkness
Where have you gone?
I don't care who sees this
I know it isn't fair to you
But the greater injustice of
Your sudden banishment
Compels my words
Two-legged scum of this blue Earth
You have taken what was not yours to take
From me, and I will bring you no joy
Anymore

Something Unbearably Pretentious
