❝Brianne had went to school that day turtle neck and all. Not only that but she had woken up hours earlier just to apply more concealer than a burn victim. When she walked into her class with Maddy, she was in a tough situation as, well, the air conditioner wasn't working and she was in no position to take off her jacket.
To compound the problem, she also suffered from a drop in serotonin from the Molly she took at the carnival, got depressed, and therefore hadn't had anything to eat or drink the entire weekend. And so, there she was, passed out while Maddy called her name. When both Maddy and the teacher couldn't seem to wake the girl up, they rushed to find help.❞
When she was finally conscious she was sat in the principals office. "I'm fine. Why does everyone not believe that I'm fine?" Brianne questioned. "Obviously, you've been through a lot this weekend. But my real concern is the bruising on your neck." Principal Hayes spoke. "There is no bruising on my neck." spoke the girl. "Mm. Paramedics saw it." Hayes said.
"Yeah, well, they're liars." shrugged Brianne. "Brianne, look. I understand that you may be afraid to talk about how you got hurt. But I want you to know that it is not your fault." Hayes told her. "I'm trying to find a really respectful way to say this. But, um, this really doesn't concern you." Brianne spoke. "It does concern me, Brianne. You're 17 years old. If I suspect that you're being abused, I'm mandated by law to report it." Hayes told her.
"Was it someone you know? Was it Nate Jacobs?" Hayes asked. "No." Brianne denied. "I'm calling your parent." Hayes spoke.
"Mom! I'm not lying!" exclaimed the girl. "I knew I could never trust that boy!" Suze spoke. "It wasn't him!" Brianne tried. "Brianne, stop lying." Suze told her. "I'm not!" Brianne said. "I'm not going to let that son of a bitch put his hands on my daughter!" Suze spoke. "He needs to know that there are consequences." Suze spoke. "Mom!" Brianne exclaimed. "I would like to press charges." Suze said.
It was silent for a moment. "Your not pressing charges!" Brianne spoke. "I am going to press charges." Suze spoke. "No your not! You're not fucking pressing charges!" Brianne exclaimed. "This is for your own good!" Suze tried. "No! You can't! You won't!" Brianne said, slumping back down in her seat and crying.
"I would like to press charges." Suze told the officers.
Cal sat with his son. "Did you do it?" he asked. "Not really." Nate said softly. "Did you admit to it?" Cal asked. "No." Nate spoke. "Did you do it?" Cal repeated. "No." Nate revised. "Well, that's good to hear. Her family's gonna press charges." Cal told the boy. "Fuck." Nate mumbled.
"Hey. Listen to me. You need to stay composed. Don't get angry, don't make a scene. You walk out of the school with your head held high." Cal started. "Look at me. Hey, look at me. What's about to happen to you to me, to our family is not gonna be easy." Cal continued. "You walk out first. I'm right behind you. Go on." Cal directed.
As he walked out, he stopped by where Brianne was. "I love you." he whispered before walking away. Brianne felt more tears pool as she let out a soft whimper.
Brianne threw something at the window in the room in which she was contained in. "Fuck you!" she yelled as the guy flinched. She threw yet another objects before the door opened. "Hi, Brianne. I'm Detective Riley. I understand this is traumatic, but you're gonna have to cooperate." Riley spoke. Something about Saturday night clicked in her. If she was going to be her best fucking self for the rest of the year, she had to stand by it.
"If you step any closer I will bite you!" Brianne threatened. "Miss, this is procedure. I need you to remove your sweater now, and if you don't, we will remove it for you." Riley spoke. "Really, How?" Brianne asked.
She was a lot more confident talking then when she was being pinned down and cuffed. "You're fucking crazy!" Brianne exclaimed. "Take a deep breath. Take a deep breath." Riley tried. "Come on, Brianne, we don't want to hurt you." Riley spoke. "Get off of me!" Brianne cried.
"Brianne, please" A police officer tried. "Relax." Riley spoke as they cuffed her legs. "Thanks guys. I got it." Riley spoke.
Riley took a pair of scissors, proceeding to cut the sweater up as Brianne sobbed. By the time Riley cleaned her bruises, Brianne sat lifelessly, staring into space. "I know you're really upset right now, and you don't want to hear this. But trust me, when I tell you that the person that did this doesn't love you." Riley spoke as she took pictures.
All Brianne could think about was how all these people didn't know half of it. Sure Nate could get violent and mad, but he truly did love her. He showed it, he spoke it. He did and tolerated things with her that he'd probably kill for if it was another person. Nate adored her. And maybe is was all the drugs she had done recently, or hormones, but all Brianne could quite literally see, was red.
In the other room Nate was being interrogated, "So you grabbed her." The interrogator confirmed. "I grabbed her by the arm to drag her away. I didn't choke her. I asked her why she was acting that way. Like, I asked her what she was doing. I don't want to get her in any trouble, but she told me she did drugs." Nate spoke. "What drugs?" the man asked. "I don't want to get her in trouble." Nate said.
"She's not gonna get in any trouble." The interrogator reassured. "Molly." Nate answered. "As in MDMA?" He asked. "Yeah." Nate confirmed. "But I don't know if it was pure. She doesn't usually do drugs so I don't know." Nate spoke. "And after that conversation, was that the last time you spoke to Miss Howard that evening?" He asked. "Yeah." Nate answered after a while.
"Her and I don't have the healthiest relationship. I know that. We broke up and got back together but.. I love her. You know, I really love her. No matter how crazy we act together, no matter what she does, I love her." Nate explained.
"I don't know, I mean, The girl I got with after Brianne was with this guy and he's mad that she blew him off so it's possible that that night.. Aah, it doesn't matter." Nate spoke, his bait already taking place. "What were you gonna say?" The detective asked. "It doesn't matter. I love Brianne. I'd never do anything to hurt her." Nate finished.
❝By the end of the week Brianne was exhausted. She was tired of all the stares, of all the documentaries and abuse stories, most of all, she was tired of not seeing Nate. That's why when she got his text to meet at a motel, she didn't hesitate.❞
