Chapter 12

Katniss pov.

"You alright" I ask Prim, she nods, "Yeah just a little shaken from the jabberjays"  "They weren't real" I tell her comfortingly. "But what if mom..." "Shhhh" I say cutting her off "She's home waiting for you" "Katniss" Prim says. "I don't want you sacrificing yourself for me. "There can only be one winner" I say, "And it has to be you" "I couldn't live with myself if I went home instead of you, I couldn't handle the guilt" "And you think I could?" She asks, "What makes you think it would be any better for me?" "Besides people need you, nobody needs me" "That's not true" I say "I need you; mom needs you, your friends need you, Rory needs you" She blushes a bit when I say this. "Katniss" Prim says. "our whole lives you sacrificed so much to take care of me and to watch out for me, but I'm telling you, now you don't have to do that anymore" "I know that I'm probably not gonna make it out of here and I've accepted it and I've already made my peace with it. "Prim" I start... "You're off the hook" she says cutting me off. She walks away leaving me speechless. She goes over and sits next to Rory, and I just stare at her.  "I have a plan" Beetee says. I call Prim and Rory over and Beetee explains his plan.  "Where are the careers now" He asks. "In the Jungle"? Prim says more like a question. "Why aren't they here on the beach" He asks. "Because we are" Johanna says. "We claimed it" Beetee nods "And if we left they would come, and what happens at midnight?" "Lighting strikes the tree" I say. "Right" He says "So what I propose is we take the wire to tree we then run the wire from the tree to water anyone in the water or in the damp sand will be electrocuted"  "Well it's swift" Rory says "I'll give you that" "And how do we know the water isn't just gonna burn up" Johanna asks. "Because I invented it" Beetee says "I assure you, it won't burn up"   "Welp" Prim says. "We've got nothing to lose" "Yeah" Peeta says "I say we try it" "Yeah, why not" I say. "If it fails no harm done anyway right?" We all nod in agreement. "So how can we help" Finnick asks. "Keep me alive for next six hours, that would be extremely helpful" Beetee says.

Prim pov. 
I sit watching Katniss and Peeta talk, I can't tell what they're saying though, "Hey" I look up to see Rory, "Hey" I say smiling at him. He sits down and starts playing with the sand. "How are you doing" "I'm alright' I say.  Rory scoots closer to me and I look away pretending not to notice. I can tell he wants to kiss me, and I want to kiss him, but we can't because we're supposed to be cousins. "What do you think they're talking about" I ask trying to redirect. "I don't know" Rory says. "Them, you home?"  "Do you think this plan is gonna work?" I ask He shrugs. "It's a good plan so I don't see why it wouldn't" "I'm just thinking about after" I nod in understanding, we all know what's gonna happen when the careers are gone, the alliance can't last forever and even though I've discovered I can hold my own pretty well, I'm still probably the least skilled person here,  not to mention the youngest I probably wouldn't last long against someone like Finnick especially worrying about Rory Katniss and Peeta in the process. I look over and see Katniss kissing Peeta I smile I'm happy my sister found someone. I look at Rory even though I want him to I know that he can never be that person for me, because we both can't make it out of here and odds are neither of us will. I study his face he's handsome his jaw line is more defined his eyes are seam grey serious but not hard like Gale's. His hair his dark and wavey. I look away before he notices. "Alright lovebirds!" Johanna calls too Peeta and Katniss" "This is it" Rory says. "Yeah" I say. he leans over and whispers in my ear
