Chapter Two

"Nice to meet you, I've heard a lot of great things about you," Ariana smiled, biting her inner-cheek a bit. She held eye contact best she could, but she felt nervous with the way the taller woman refused to break the intense gaze. She stuck a hand out, "I'm Ariana MacDonnell, but you can call me Ari."

She nodded, ignoring the outstretched hand.

"Wow, get a room already." KK commented, rolling her eyes. "Seriously, how are you even passing as a human being with your bot ass, Nika." The Croatian—for the first time in minutes—tore her eyes away from Ariana to glare at KK, who makes a face.

"Alright," Paige sighs, clapping her hands. "Now that everybody's met everybody, let's shoot some hoops, shall we?" She picked the ball from the floor, dribbling it. "Mickey, ya' joining us?"

Ariana blew a raspberry, holding up her hands. "Hell no, I don't ball. My job is to fix broken ballers, not be one."

"Okay, ya' bore. Go check out your office or something so you're not in the way of us pros, we'll be up in a bit." Paige shooed, nudging her towards the stairs at the end of the gym. The shorter clicked her tongue, strutting away.

Upstairs, Ariana strolls down the hall until she hit room 314. A silver plaque with the words, "Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy Centre" engraved in a black font. She knocked on the door, hearing a faint "Come in!" before pushing the door open into a spacious office.

"Ariana! You're back in Connecticut!"

Ariana smiled, accepting the embrace Kelly gave her as she walked around her desk. "Yup. Feels good to be back. I came with Paige, figured I might as well drop by."

"Oh, of course. I emptied out the rest of Jonas' things, so you'd have a free room. Here, follow me." Ariana tailed Kelly through the main foyer where there were couches and magazines sprawled like a waiting room. Kelly's table was at the back of the room, a door behind leading to a physically therapy room. Down the hall, there were doors to massage rooms and bathrooms, as well as a spacious medical room with an empty desk. There was a computer on it, and the room was stocked with medical supplies, but it was mostly freed and calling Ariana's name.

"Here, my dear, is where you'll be spending a lot of your time the rest of this semester."

Flabbergasted, Ariana hawks at the working space. "Wow, Kelly, I... I don't know what to say. This is amazing, thank you, but I don't know if I deserve this much just yet."
