Chad POV:

It was a week to the final exams, the very first final exams I will be taking in Hogwarts! To be honest, I was SUPER nervous. Not because I didn't study, but because I couldn't shake off the feeling that I wouldn't do well. I don't know why. I've always scored decently in all my other exams. Except those exams weren't like the Hogwarts ones.

Over the past weeks, I've been studying with my friends, hoping that would make the exams seem a bit less scary. However, that idea kind of took a wrong turn somewhere along the middle.

"Joshua, wanna review Defence Against the Dark Arts together?" I ask as I sit under a tree while Joshua kicks a ball somewhere.

"Defence Against the Dark Arts? What's there to review? It's not Professor Quirell with his stammering tongue will fail us," Joshua mocks, laughing.

"Well, I still think we should practice," I say somewhat defiantly.

He sighs and replies, "Alright, alright. What should we do first?"

"I don't know, maybe defence charms or something."

"Okay. What's the most basic defence charm you know?"

"Uhhh... Expelliarmus?"

"Great. See? You're all set." Joshua pats my head before getting up again.

"How are you not nervous for the exams?" I ask.

"Because there's nothing to be nervous about. We've all studied, so there's hardly anything else we need to prepare. So, I suggest you quit worrying and actually do something interesting."

"Okay fine," I sigh.

He kicks the ball to me, and I try to kick it back but slip in the process. He chuckles before walking over to me and helping me to my feet.

After a while, I get the hang of kicking the ball and don't land on the grass as many times. We spend the whole afternoon playing around and I didn't even realise until Professor McGonagall gave us both detention for accidentally kicking the ball into Mr. Filch and his cat.

"Chad, focus!" Alex reprimands as I try to balance my quill between my nose and upper lip.

"Fine, fine," I mumble, and we revise Charms.

"You want to make something float. What spell do you use?" He asks quickly.

"Uhhh," I hesitate. "Wingardium Leviosa!"

"And the wand movement?"

"Swish and flick."

"Good. Next question." He flicks through his notes before deciding what to ask. "It's a pitch-black room and you have nothing but your wand. What do you do?"

"Find the door?" I guess.

"Really, Chad?"

"Okay, okay. The charm is Lumos, right?"

"Yes. And the countercharm?"

"Nox."

"Fantastic. Now let's go over the wand movements for the spells Alohamora, Stupefy, Accio, Confundo, Reparo, Petrificus Totalus, and Ascendio."

I groan loudly as I hear Alex flip to and bookmark the exact pages of his notes containing the wand movements for those spells.

"What is the purpose of Gurdyroot?" I ask as I read aloud from the flash cards I prepared.

"I don't know," Jake states. "And honestly, who does?"
