Collin and James set out on their bikes to the edge of town, eager for a leisurely afternoon by the river bank. The sun was beginning to dip low in the sky, casting a warm golden hue over the water as they pedaled along the dusty path.
As they reached the river bank, Collin spotted a figure lying in the shallows of the river. "Look in the river! Look at that man!
He is sleeping in the river," Collin exclaimed, his voice tinged with both curiosity and concern.
Intrigued, the boys left their bikes on the bank and cautiously made their way down to the prone figure. Turning him over, they were surprised to see a man, unkempt and disoriented, staring up at them with eyes clouded with confusion.
"What year is it?" the man rasped, his voice hoarse and pleading.
Collin and James exchanged a puzzled glance before responding, "It's 2009."
But the man's reaction was immediate and intense. "Do not lie to me! What is the year?" he demanded, his voice rising in desperation.
Unease crept over the boys as they realized something was amiss. The man's behavior was erratic, his words hinting at a disconnect with reality that sent a chill down their spines.
Undeterred, the man pressed on, "Do you boys have a drink?" When they replied in the negative, he seemed puzzled by their mention of bikes, a concept foreign and unfamiliar to him.
Perplexed and wary, Collin and James watched as the man abruptly stood up, his movements unsteady and disjointed. "What are you doing?" James asked with a note of caution in his voice.
The man simply replied, "What do you think? I'm going home," before shuffling off towards the town, leaving the boys staring after him in bewildered silence.
Concerned by the man's odd behavior, Collin and James decided to act. They quickly contacted the authorities, and before long, a police officer named Bob arrived on the scene. Bob's stern warning to the boys to stay away and report any suspicious encounters sparked a flicker of fear in their hearts.
As they watched the man being taken away by the police, a lingering unease settled over Collin and James. Who was this mysterious stranger, and what secrets did he hold from a past long forgotten? Little did they know that their encounter with the man from the past was only the beginning of a chilling mystery that would soon engulf them in fear and danger.
