1. Audition

"So, besides acting, what's your favorite pastime?"

"Oh, definitely reading books. There's something magical about getting lost in a good story. And I also enjoy indulging myself in art; I love to paint."

I finally wrapped up my shooting for this interview, completing all the necessary shots.

Recently, I've been occupied with a project for a magazine, which is why I'm here to discuss it. God, I feel utterly exhausted.

It was already night when I headed straight to my hotel. I'd been staying here for months due to the pile of work lined up for me.

As soon as I reached my room, my phone rang. It was my manager. "I've got an audition for you," she exclaimed eagerly. "It's for a movie—a big opportunity. Don't miss it. I'll send you the details—address and time. Be there tomorrow."

I had already done two movies before, but they were minor roles, nothing substantial. Sure, it was fun, but deep down, I yearned to be the leading actor. I hoped this audition could finally be my chance to step into that spotlight.

"God, I'm running so late," I muttered under my breath, panic mounting as I frantically searched for my lucky shirt

"God, I'm running so late," I muttered under my breath, panic mounting as I frantically searched for my lucky shirt. It wasn't intentional; I just couldn't leave without it. Racing like a madman, I finally arrived at the studio, breathless and relieved. Luckily, I hadn't been called yet; three others were still ahead of me.

At long last, my turn arrived, and I stepped into the spotlight to deliver my audition. The room was filled with intimidating faces, sending shivers down my spine. Nerves gnawed at me relentlessly, but I summoned all my courage and gave it my all. Despite the fear gripping me, I remained determined to stay positive, no matter the outcome.

After my audition, I desperately needed to find the washroom. I asked a woman for directions, but her instructions were confusing. Still, not wanting to bother her, I just thanked her and tried to find it on my own.

God, I don't know if it's my English or my mind playing tricks, but I can't make sense of these directions, I grumbled to myself, feeling utterly bewildered. "Left to right corner of this hall?" I muttered incredulously. "It's all so confusing."

Spotting a room nearby with people around, I hurriedly slipped inside, relieved to find it had a washroom. Changing into a floral sleeveless dress, I felt a small sense of accomplishment for locating both the room and the facilities. As I admired my outfit in the mirror, I heard someone attempting to open the door.

"One sec!" I called out, slightly startled by the intrusion.

As I opened the door, I was met with the sight of a strikingly handsome man, engrossed in his phone with a mixture of emotions flickering across his face, veering toward frustration.

Clearing my throat, I addressed him, "Thank you for waiting. I was changing my clothes," I managed to blurt out with a nervous laugh,  "Me and my friend, we are going to this art gallery nearby, so, yes, I was in desperate need for the washroom".

I mentally kicked myself for sounding so scattered.

"I know it doesn't bother you, but, um, you can use the washroom".

I was fumbling with my words, feeling slightly embarrassed for my rambling.

"I mean, not that you have to use the washroom, but if you need to, it's free now. Sorry for the wait, really." I mentally scolded myself for my awkwardness. Why was I stumbling over my words like a nervous teenager? Taking a deep breath, I tried to compose myself, hoping my cheeks weren't betraying my embarrassment too much.

Why couldn't I just be cool and collected like in the interviews? Instead, here I was, stumbling over my words like a bumbling fool.

He offered a small smile, his expression shifting from irritation to mild surprise.

"Well, I suppose I talk too much sometimes," I admitted with a nervous chuckle, feeling a bit relieved by his reaction. His smile was reassuring, calming my nerves a little as I attempted to regain my composure.

"Well, nice to meet you, miss?" he inquired, his tone friendly yet expectant, waiting for my name to be announced.

I hesitated for a moment, suddenly realizing that in my flurry of words, I had forgotten to introduce myself. "Oh, right, sorry," I stammered, feeling a blush creeping up my cheeks. "I'm Amelia".

Glancing at my phone, I saw I was running late. "I really have to go," I said quickly, feeling flustered as I made for the door. But in my rush, I misjudged and smacked my head into the supposedly open glass door. "Ouch!" I winced, feeling foolish.

"You okay?" he asked, a mix of concern and amusement in his voice. Despite the pain, I couldn't help but chuckle at the mishap.

After that awkward moment, I headed straight to the art gallery. And there, like a beacon of comfort, was Charlotte, my best friend, already there, waiting for me.

Charlotte and I, both 25, became friends back in college. I was studying art history, and she was into ceramics. Now, as volunteers at an art gallery museum, we enjoy reminiscing about our college days while still indulging in our love for the arts.

After we'd spent some time admiring the art, Charlotte turned to me and said, "Hey, what kind of movie did you audition for? Action, romance, horror?"

I chuckled. "At this point, all I know is that it's a romance movie," I replied.

" Any idea when they'll announce the verdict?" Charlotte asked.

I shrugged. "Not sure, probably sometime next week," I replied.

We headed to a nearby cafe after our time at the gallery, spending an hour there catching up.

After our juicy gossip session, we exchanged goodbyes.
