It was late at night and raining hard. Ghost was laying in bed fast asleep with his husband laying next to him.

Thunder boomed loudly outside as lightning filled the room. Ghost wrapped his arms around Y/n tightly.

Alex sniffled as he climbed out of bed. The little 4 year old boy clutched his plushie tightly as he waddled out of his room.

Y/n and Ghost adopted Alex when he was just a baby. The two men absolutely adored their little boy and will do anything to keep him safe.

Alex quietly walked into his parents room and climbed into his dad's bed, careful not to wake them up.

Ghost was woken up by the sound of someone entering the bed and he instantly wrapped his arms around Alex, snuggling up to the little boy.

"Oh, sweetie." Ghost murmured sleepily, "It's alright. We're here. The storm can't hurt us."

"I had a nightmare daddy." Alex whimpered as he got in the middle of Y/n and Ghost. Y/ns eyes fluttered open as he wrapped his arms around Alex.

"Shhh it's OK baby. Daddy and papa's here. Your nightmare wasn't real. It was just a bad dream." Y/n said gently as he moved some hair from Alex's face.

"Mm." Ghost mumbled, his eyes still closed as he squeezed Alex tightly to him.

"Did you see anything in your nightmare, sweetie?" Ghost asked, "You can tell us. Nothing's too big or too scary. Papa and I will always keep you safe."

Alex looked down as tears rolled down his cheeks.

Ghost frowned, wiping Alex's tears with his hand and cuddling him close.

"Tell us what it was. Don't be scared. You're safe now, Alex... It can't hurt you anymore." Ghost encouraged his son gently, caressing Alex's back.

"You and papa didn't want me anymore." The little boy sobbed.

Ghost's heart froze when he heard his son's words. He sat up in bed, holding Alex firmly, and turned to face him directly.

"What? No! How could you even think that? We'll always want you, Alex. You're our little boy! We love you so much, and we'd never do anything to make you think otherwise." Ghost said tearfully, "Please don't ever think that. Okay?"

Y/n sat up as he pulled Alex close. "Yes, daddy's right. Alex we will never not want you ok. We're your parents. We love you no matter what, ok." Y/n said.

Alex's sobs began to taper off, as the two parents assured him of their undying love. Ghost couldn't help but tear up, his son's nightmare hitting too close to home.

"We love you, okay?" Ghost repeated, gently stroking Alex's hair, "Nothing will ever change that. Now... I think it's time we all try to sleep again, alright? No more scary dreams." Ghost smiled and kissed his son's forehead, "Go back to sleep, okay sweet pea?"

Y/n smiled softly. "Wait. You know what my dad always used to do when I had a nightmare?" Y/n asked Alex.

Ghost and Alex both smiled at the mention of Y/n's father.

"What did he do?" Alex asked eagerly, his spirits lifted by the positive tone and the thought of a special bedtime trick.

Y/n got out of bed and rummaged into his closet.

He pulled out a small white globe. A nightlight.

Y/n plugged the night light in and the ceiling was lit up with stars and dragons. It was a beautiful night light.

Alex's eyes went wide as he took in the magical world suddenly appearing above him.  He giggled excitedly, his nightmare a distant memory.

Ghost watched his son with a tearful look of adoration in his eyes, proud of his husband's gesture and the special memory he was creating for their son.

Y/n smiled as he got back into bed. He pulled his son close and started to sing a lullaby.

Alex snuggled against his fathers, his body feeling warm and safe once more.  He let his dad's song wash over him and his eyes slowly drifted closed, exhausted by the excitement but comfortable now that he was back in his parents arms.

Ghost watched his son drift off to sleep quietly, a tender smile on his lips.  He then glanced over at his husband, reaching out and holding onto Y/n's hand tightly.

Y/n smiled softly. "Goodnight Alex." He whispered.

Ghost followed suit, giving his son one last squeeze before settling back into bed and pulling the covers up over all three of them.

"Sleep tight, Alex. We'll see you in the morning." Ghost spoke quietly, his eyes never leaving his son.

When he was sure Alex was asleep, he rolled over toward Y/n and gave his husband a loving stare. "Goodnight, my love."

Y/n smiled as he kissed Ghost softly. Y/n tangled his hand in Ghosts blonde hair. "I love you too, darling."

Ghost smiled back, his eyes shining with pure affection as he ran his fingers through Y/n's dark hair.

"I love you more." Ghost whispered playfully, "Much, much more."

Y/n sighed as he laid on his back and looked up at the ceiling which the nightlight filled with stars and dragons. "I miss my dad Simon. So much." Y/n whispered. Y/ns father passed away a year ago. Y/n and his dad was inseparable. Y/n never knew his mom and he was raised by his dad.

Ghost sat up slowly so that he was facing his husband, and then curled around him, wrapping his arms tightly around Y/n's body. He pulled him closer, pressing his lips against Y/n's forehead.

"I know you do baby, I know." Ghost whispered, kissing his husband's cheek, "And I know it still hurts so much, losing him. But I know he's always watching over you, and protecting you. He's never truly gone, sweetheart, I promise."

Y/n nodded as he cuddled closer to Ghost which was a little hard because Alex was in between them.

"I love you darling. So much." Y/n said quietly so he doesn't wake Alex.

"I love you too, sweetheart." Ghost whispered, squeezing his husband tightly, "I love you so much."

As he spoke, he kissed Y/n's hand and rubbed his thumb over it gently. He felt Alex's little body pressing against them, warm and soft between their two grown bodies. The three of them, together as a family. Nothing could ever top this feeling.
