The crystal sat embedded in the rock glimmering madly in all the colors of the rainbow. It was exquisite an object of praise but Yuu spent no time giving it even a look of admiration as he quickly blotted out its light with his hand. He grabbed the crystal and adjusted his hand a bit to get a good grip before yanking it out of the rock. Finding and dragging a pickax over would take too long and the rock surrounding the crystal wasn't that sturdy either so this was the fastest way. Yuu shoved the crystal in his pocket and turned to the exit of the cave hurrying back.
Before he had left to get the crystal he gave specific instructions to the others. Grim would lure the creature out with his flames and quick flying. Once the creature was a good distance from the cave Grim would put more energy into his attacks which the ginger would then boost using his wind magic. The ginger and Grim would make these attacks quick and harsh leaving the creature vulnerable.
Once the creature has been weakened, Deuce would come in. He would conjure up a cauldron large enough to render it immobile at the very least. As long as Yuu could make it in and out of the cave with the crystal it wouldn't matter if the creature was dead or not, all he needed was time.
A loud crash followed by an inhuman groan told Yuu that his plan had been successful. His footsteps sped up as he broke into a run. It was difficult for Yuu to tell the range of the creature's power, things like that never used to concern Yuu. The weak were weak and he was strong, that's all that mattered to him before. But now with his current state things have changed. He knew that in comparison to him before the creature was weak but he couldn't tell how weak. How many hits would it take to kill it? How long would it stay down? Was it already at full power or was there more?
There were too many unknowns so Yuu cast the thoughts aside and simply just ran. Once he made it outside he was met with the proud look of triumph on Grim and the dou's faces.
"Yuu we did it!" Grim howled in his glory of a win, "me an' the dimwits took that beast down!"
That didn't stop Yuu from continuing to run. Unlike Grim and the duo who stood there haughty, Yuu knew better than to celebrate so early. Yuu nabbed Grim from the air, ripping a shriek from the cat before setting him on his good shoulder. He ran straight through the duo grabbing both of their sleeves as he went dragging them along.
"Ay hey! What's the big idea!" The ginger yelled.
The sudden roar and clanking of metal answered the ginger's question in Yuu's place. Grim and the duo looked back to witness the creature shakily arising from the ground resulting in the cauldron to roll off of its back and slam into the ground loudly. It gripped its pickaxe in rage, splintering the wood as the liquid in its glass head gurgled and frothed. The blue haired student sucked in a breath and along with the ginger he began to truly put effort into his steps.
As the two sped up they passed Yuu, both reached out behind the and grabbed one of Yuu's hands. Grim held on tight to Yuu's shoulder watching as the creature charged towards them. They wove through the trees and the brush before pulling over behind a large trunk. Kneeling the duo panted while Yuu watched, a bit of sweat dripping down his forehead. The running caused his shoulder to move excessively, opening the injury further. While the pain was numb to him now the blood secreted from his wound heavily, not enough to be lethal but enough to make him uncomfortable.
"Damn it..." the ginger huffed out with scrunched eyebrows, "we can't outrun that thing..."
The distant clanging grew louder with each passing second. Grim shook with unease, his body curling into the crook of Yuu's neck. What was it that he felt earlier? That feeling. Grim needed that feeling that the human gave him so he clung onto Yuu. He missed it. He really missed that feeling. But what was it? What did that human make him fe-
