JENNIE
Jennie Kim, born in Cheongdamdong on January 16th, 1996. An only daughter who's been raised by her mom since day one. Her mom always wanted Jennie to be free, always taught her that the world is bigger than just Seoul or South Korea. So, when it was the time to choose her baby's name, she thought about a name that could be used worldwide, ending up with Jennie Ruby Jane Kim. She brought her daughter up with an open mind and often talked about countries and different cultures.
When Jennie got a little older, her Omma decided to take her to a trip abroad, to New Zealand. Through their days there, the little girl would always talk about how calm and peaceful the city was and secretly, her mom would take notes of it every time. Until one day her mom asked Jennie:
- What do you think about living here, honey?
And after thinking a little, the girl said:
- Yeah, I think I would like that, Omma
With a smile on her face, Jennie's mom started planning how that was going to happen.
Once they got back to Seoul, everything was planned, but only one thing was missing, the appropriate age. So she had to wait a little more. Only on Jennie's 9th birthday, she told her baby that her gift would be an exchange program to New Zealand. She would be staying in a korean household and she'd study at ACG Parnell College, everything was already sorted out.
Jennie loved it, of course, but still, there was that little fear of how things would be there, everything would be different and new, after all. Later, after some few months of preparing her mind, the brave girl was ready for this new adventure and couldn't wait to see her new life.
The girl's plane would leave at 9:00am destined to Auckland and would land 8:30pm there...
MINUTES BEFORE THE FLIGHT
- Mom, have you seen Lee? - Lee was Jennie's pillow since she was 5. It was named after Lee Hyori, her and her mom's favorite singer. She'd grown attached to it and could not sleep if not with her baby pillow.
- Yes, darling, it is already in the car. It's 8:20am already, c'mon, we're gonna be late!
- Sure, mom. - said Jennie as she walked out of her room and headed towards the garage.
...
It was 8:45am when they've gotten to the airport.
Once there, Jennie's mom led her daughter to the luggage discharge and the pre-check in. By the time the matter was settled, they already had to enter the plane...
- Phew, we made it exactly through 9 o'clock, mom! - said Jennie.
- Are you excited, darling? - her mom said with a smile on her face.
- Of course I am, Omma! but I'm also a little bit nervous... - said Jennie with an apprehensive face.
- Aw, no need to be, honey, I'm just by your side, everything's gonna be fine, you'll see. - Jennie's mom said while bear hugging her daughter.
...
As previously said, they landed exactly at 8:30pm, and oh they were hungry! Headed straight to the household, Jennie and her mom started talking about how exciting this adventure would be, and specially, how good would it be to the 9 year old girl and how brave and a big girl she was being to agree with this.
It was 9:00pm when they arrived at the new house. The family was very welcoming and had made dinner for the two of them, that obviously, almost cried because of how hungry they were.
While eating, they started to make conversation, Jennie shy at the beginning, of course. Later she found out that this was a Kim's house, in other words, the household belonged to Kim's also. After eating, the Kim's showed the other Kim's the house, starting off with Jennie's room, where she and her mom would be staying for 3 days, before the girl's class start, and ending up promising to take them for a ride around the neighborhood by the morning.
3 DAYS LATER
- But moooom, I love youuu, please stay heeeeere. - said Jennie grabbing her mother's arm.
- I know, darling, I love you too, but mommy has to go, okay? Mommy has to work... But I promise you that I'll call every night to hear everything you have to say while you're here. How about that, honey? What do you say? - said the girl's mom while cupping her face and softly caressing her mandu cheeks.
- Hmm, okay, Omma - said a pouting Jennie Kim to her beloved mother.
Smiling, her mom couldn't hold back and pecked her pouty lips, bear hugging her babygirl and whispering hundreds of I love you's. Jennie blushed a little noticing that the Kim's were looking at them, eventually making the little girl hide her face on her mom's neck.
Later on, Jennie was beside her new family watching her mother leave on a taxi heading to the airport. Her heart clutching at the sight as she realized she'd be on her own now.
