WETKIT'S POV
-------
TW: BLOOD, KIT DEATH
-------I open my maw, a yawn escaping my mouth as the morning dew filters through the Nursery vines. my eyes slowly open, scanning the den.
nobody else was awake, just the silence to occupy me. there was slight movement in the clearing. it was most likely early morning.
I pull myself to my paws, my tail raising as I inhale the scents of the kits and queens in the Nursery with me.
I looked at Moleyowl, and her kits. I tilt my head before walking up to them, and I nudge Brightkit with my maw.
Brightkit stirs, and stretches as she wakes.
" what? "
she mews, glaring at me.
I blink, and smile.
" morning! "
I say nonchalantly.
Brightkit rolls her eyes, and stumbles to her paws.
" hey.. wanna see something cool? "
I tilt my head, and nod vigorously.
" follow me, then "
Brightkit turns, walking out of the Nursery, into the clearing. I follow Brightkit, staying close to her. she sticks to the edges of the clearing, in the shadows.
" where are we-? "
I was cut off by Brightkit slapping me in the maw with her tail.
" shut up! "
she hisses. I grunt.
Brightkit makes her way to the camp exit.
" Brightkit, is this safe? "
I mew.
" of course it is, silly! "
Brightkit rolls her eyes, stepping out of the camp. I reluctantly follow, ears flat.
Brightkit sauntered, while I stalked. she was confident, loud. while I was nervous, jumpy.
Brightkit led me further and further away from camp, to a riverbank.
It looked pretty, sand glimmering in the sunlight, flowers and herbs around the edge, fish in the river, the sun reflecting on the surface of the water.
I inhale at the sight, my ears perking, and I stand up straight.
" see? "
Brightkit says, almost snarkily. eyeing me arrogantly. she trots down to the river bank, lapping at the water, drinking.
I slowly follow behind her, a catbrow raised. I sat behind her, looking to where the river disappeared behind the hill. it was serene, peaceful, quiet.
a smile tugs at my maw, my tail flicking at my paws. Brightkit was swiping at the fish in the river, attempting to catch one. though, she failed miserably.
I close my eyes, letting the sunlight soak into my pelt. then, the air is knocked out of me as my back hits the floor. I open my eyes, Brightkit had tackled me.
" let's play! "
she mews, her tail swaying.
I grin, then push her off me, rolling on top of her.
" got you! "
I purr.
Brightkit swipes at my face playfully, but I dodge. I jump off her, pretending to hunt her.
she leaps at me, landing on my back.
" ow! okay, I give up! "
I laugh. Brightkit steps off me, gloating. I roll my eyes, and playfully swipe at her tail, missing.
I lift myself up to my paws, padding to the riverbank to drink some of the water. fish swimming away from me as I dip my tongue in, lapping up the water. it was cold water. cold water on a sunny day. it made me smile, and it gave my now sweaty body relief.
after I drank, I laid on my back on the sand, staring at the clouds. Brightkit laid next to me. she pointed at a cloud with her paw.
" that looks like a.. uh.. leaf? "
She tilts her head. it looked nothing like a leaf. it was more of a triangle shape.
I laugh.
" no it doesn't! but, that one looks like.. actually, I don't know. "
I grunt, raising a cat brow at the peculiar shaped cloud I was looking at.
" it looks like a dead rat "
Brightkit says nonchalantly, and I laugh.
----
we spent a while there, horsing around, play fighting, drinking, cloud gazing, messing about in the nearby forest.
" I'm hungry "
I whine to Brightkit.
" well, let's go back then "
Brightkit sighs, as if she didn't want to go back. she turned, waiting for me to follow. we walked along a dirt path that was flat from the paw steps. she ambled along, while i walked with prickled back fur, something put me on edge. i walked with my tail low, prickled. my back arched.
Brightkit lifts her head.
'' can you smell that? ''
she mews, twisting her head around with her nose in the air, sniffing for something. i cautiously take a step back, slightly lifting my head as well, my nose pointed to the sky. i was stood at least ten or twelve pawsteps behind her.
'' i cant smell anything. what are you talking about? ''
i turn my back to Brightkit, trying to track this scent she was talking about when i hear a shriek that was quickly muffled, i jolt, my fur prickling as i spin back around to face her with frenzied eyes, my claws digging into the path underneath.
a fox was stood over Brightkit, all i could see from my view was the fox's tail, though i heard sounds of struggle and muffled shrieking. by the time the fox lifted its head, i couldnt see Brightkit, there was only a pile of.. blood.. and.. fur..?
was that..
..Brightkit?
i take a step back, inhaling in horror, the fox turned to me, blood splattered across its maw and teeth as it snarled at me. i turn to run, yet i was pinned and held to the ground. sharp teeth dug into my back leg, tugging and pulling at it. i hiss in pain as i feel my leg getting lighter, and colder. i spin around to scratch the fox, though my claws were dull. i limp off and take a glance at my leg, large chunks of flesh ripped out, as blood flowed out hastily.
i let out a cry of pain as my adrenaline fades, and i stagger, before falling into a lay. the fox approaches me again, continuing to chew and bite at my leg. i yowl loudly, tears falling down my cheeks, a lump in my throat as blinding pain shoots through me.
the fox wasnt happy with my struggling, and lunged forwards to trap my face in its maws, my ear ripping, part of it being bitten off, while i scream in pain as a tooth impales my eye, and my eyelid refused to open. heavy, thick blood running down my face.
the fox turned back to my leg, and took one final tug, before the pain in my leg stopped completely.
my sight hazed.
my hearing muffled.
ringing.
ringing.
my ears are ringing.
my head is spinning.
my eyes blank.
all i can hear is my heartbeat.
slowing.
slow heartbeat.
is this what dying feels like?
i cant die, can i?
....where is my leg?
