Jack has made many friends, but he had never befriended someone like Maria. Their beautiful and lasting friendship started as Jack doing what he does best, randomly talking to people. He was in class doing nothing. Since his class that day had no assignments, he was listening to music and playing games on his phone. He was listening to a song with a nice beat complemented by a smooth baseline and was playing an arcade style game.He saw Maria across from where he was sitting and thought, "I don't think I've seen her before. She's very pretty though." He didn't think much of it so he went back doing his thing. After a while, he noticed that she had been alone so Jack wanted to talk to her. So he stopped what he was doing and went over to meet yet another friend, or so he thought as he didn't know what the future had in store for him and his future best friend.
He approached her and made small talk about how boring class was and getting to know her as the conversation progressed. It started off by Jack saying, "Hi, I saw that you were by yourself and I thought that you might need someone to talk to, so here I am." He bore a nice, casual tone and a small goofy grin. The conversation felt easier and smoother as Maria laughed and said, "Oh my gosh, you're so nice! I really enjoy meeting people like you, my name is Maria." Jack smiled brightly and replied with, "Thanks! I like meeting people like you too, my name is Jack."
When she was alone, he would always keep him company, she's by his side and Jack by hers. They are the best of friends. Maria is a all-around great person to be around. She's smiling most of the time and is very funny. They can always talk about things that they would be uncomfortable talking about with anybody else, always helping each other out no matter what it was, and are inseparable. There was never a dull moment when Maria and Jack were together.
Maria is usually smiling and looks happy most of the time, but underneath that sweet smile is a girl with internal issues. She's from a broken family and it's hard to handle life with just her mom. Her mom is very nice and communicates with Maria often but that doesn't hold her back from having suicidal thoughts. She tells Jack this side of hers and he's deeply concerned for her. Being just a normal friend, Jack feels restricted because of the unfamiliarity of the normal friendship bond he has with Maria so every time he sees her he always finds ways to lighten the weight in her heart.
Jack finds Maria everyday and asks her how she's feeling. Maria would always say that she's okay, but actions speak louder than words. Jack always finds a way to make her smile or lighten her mood one way or another. Maria enjoys Jack's company and feels happy whenever he's around. Their normal friendship ended when one day Maria told him that she had once tried to overdose.
Jack places his hands on her cheeks and said with a serious tone, "Don't you ever think of doing that to yourself ever again, do you hear me? You're very special to a lot of people do you understand that? Committing suicide isn't just selfish, it's incredibly stupid. If you really did do that, I wouldn't know how to live knowing that my best friend committed suicide because she was depressed and that I couldn't do anything to stop her. So please, if not for yourself then for everyone that deeply cares for you, don't you ever do anything to harm yourself again okay?"
Maria, now almost crying, hugs Jack tightly and says, "Okay, I won't do anything like that ever again. Thank you so very much Jack, for saying that. I love you so much as a best friend and I'm very glad that I met you." Jack smiles in relief saying, "I'll always be there for you even when no one else seems to be."
