"Where's your car? I need my bag" she asked. She checked her phone again for the cab's location. It was nearing Vivek's house. They both went out and once they stepped out, it felt shanth.
The buzz of the crowd was lost and the loud music had stopped. She could hear the traffic of the city but it still felt calm. Ritvik guided them to his car and opened it.
"My name is Arushi, in case you were not sure." she remembered not giving him any introductions about herself and felt a pang of guilt. "Nah, I found out it was Arushi when you replied to it. While drunk" he said, chuckling. Arushi was not embarrassed about it yet she found herself awkwardly laughing it off. It felt like she had to justify not introducing herself to him somehow but she resisted the urge.
He was nothing to her and she had no reason to care about his opinion. Yet she did.
She took her bag out of the car and slung it over her shoulders. He locked his car and leaned on the bonet. She joined him. No one spoke but it felt nice. She felt comfortable and wanted to ask the cars honking in the traffic to shut up and not ruin their moment.
"Mumbai sucks the life out of a person, no?" Arushi was surprised he had spoken first. For the first time. He had a small smile on his lips. Maybe he had noticed her glancing towards the never ending car lights on the road. Maybe he thought she wanted out of this place as soon as possible. Maybe she did. But she could see in his eyes, how much he loved his city. It was the nostalgia and admiration he held for it.
"I am sure you will hate every city until you find someone you can call home." she said, meaning every word.
