A BIG change

Hawks looks over Dabi as he opens his eyes. Petals and blood all around him. Who did he love? He questions but turns his eyes averted to the side. "Dabi!" Hawks exclaims as Dabi's eyes once again fell close. What was wrong with him? Dabi could hear Hawks worrying over him, but his body was in no state to move at all. He weakly opens his eyes and stares at Hawks, unable to say a word. "Dabi...please...answer me." Hawks begs, his face stained with tears. Dabi coughs up more blood, another petal as well. Dabi knew what it was, he was just terrified. He had the same as his mother died from.

(Authors note real quick! This is an AU where Dabi's mother died because she was coughing up petals, eventually becoming full flowers, and she died from it. The disease is added in a explaining picture next chapter.)

Dabi looked at Hawks and realised. Dabi had fallen in love too fast, and since the disease roared through his family, that was dangerous. Highly dangerous. He loved Hawks, but Hawks didn't know him enough to say the same. I'm fucked over. Dabi thought and sighed. "I'm okay, Hawks." "You have flower petals all over you!" Hawks complained. He sighs. "I'm fine. Really." He pushed further. He didn't want Hawks to worry too much. "You're not. Stop lying." Hawks says, and Dabi, despite his body yelling at him to stay down, got up on his feet. "I'm great. Couldn't be better." He says, not letting the hints of sarcasm shine through. "If you say so." Hawks stuttered. Dabi just laid in the thin-soft bed and closed his eyes, trying to get some actual sleep for once in a while.

[Hawks]

Hawks just stared at Dabi. He was more than concerned seeing Dabi fall upon the ground, coughing up nothing but blood and petals. Its weird, he found. Normally, a person would've coughed up blood alone, not parts of a literal flower. Hawks looked at Dabi, who had decided to go to sleep after that whole ordeal. What is this guys deal? He wondered. Dabi seemed pretty secretive, even though he had been open towards Hawks since day one. What was this petal-coughing Dabi suddenly had going on? He wondered if he would see the full flower some day, the petals seemed quite familiar. Hawks stared over Dabi, deciding to keep an eye on his scarred friend. Maybe, if Hawks could figure out what flowers the petals are from, he might be able to figure out a disease fitting them. The HSPC has learned him dozens about faithful diseases connected with flowers that he needed to look out for. He sighed and decided to call the HSPC, the handler they gave him, to be exact. The woman soon picked up, staring down upon Hawks with her glazing grey eyes. "Hawks." She mumbles. "I need help." He says quick, not wanting to waste useless time. "Yeah?" "Definitely." "What's up?" Yes, she was willing to help. Hawks wasn't going to admit that he's usually pretty begging and whining like a kid in a candy store to get what he wants, but that's nothing to be worried off right now. "I'm hospitalised in a mental institution, and my roommate is coughing up blood and orange petals, from a flower. What kind of disease could that be?" Hawks asks. "There's only one that can be." The woman answered.

"Hanahaki."

Shit. That's bad enough. Hawks thought. That meant Dabi was in love with someone. Ouch. Hawks didn't know why, but that feeling stung his heart. He didn't know Dabi yet at all. "Oh. That ain't good." Hawks says. "I hope he'll be fine. I hope that the one he fell for will like him back in the end, before it's too late." The woman says and hangs up. He can't save Dabi? Or can he? How do you fall in love with someone you barely know? And then it hit. It'd be the favourite flower of that one you love, right? Then why were they orange? Hawks' favourite flower was orange. Could it be him that Dabi loved? No way. They just met.

[Dabi]

He opened his eyes, Hawks laying over him. Hawks' head was on Dabi's lap while the rest of the winged hero was on the floor. What the fuck? Hawks had his phone "in hand"-more on lap-and it was obviously off. Hawks was clearly asleep as Dabi sighed, and a slight blush came to his cheeks. Shit. He softly pushes Hawks off. The bird wouldn't mind. But he did take Hawks' phone. For being a hero, you'd expect Hawks to have a password to his phone, but he didn't. Dabi opened the phone and stumbled upon the Google search on Hanahaki. Shit. Hawks was smarter than he thought. Dabi closed the app and went into Hawks' contacts, seeing that one rabbit girl called Mirko, the number 5 pro hero-a huge pain in the ass-texted him huge. Dabi sighed and read the messages.

"Hey Hawks!"
"Where are you?"
"Birdslut?"
"Hawks!"
"Hawks, answer me!"
"Bitch."
"Birdieeee"
"Hawks."
"Cover for me okay? I'm going to the rabbit hole instead of patrol."
"What the fuck dude!?"
"Oh whatever."
"You got captured? What?"
"Birdie, wtf?"
"A mental hospital?"
"What?"

And then a new message of just now send, when Dabi was holding the damned phone.

"Hey, heard your roommate might have Hanahaki, oof. I hope they'll be fine."
"Ever thought about the fact that people fall for you easily?"
"Hawks?"
"Why are you only reading?"

Dabi shook and sighed, he typed to reply.

"I'm sorry, Mirko. But Hawks has fallen asleep, I, his roommate, has taken his phone for a minute and was curious about your messages. I'll tell him to reply later."

But before he could click send, he coughed up blood and a single orange petal. Stupid flowers. He clicked send, and Mirko replied.

"Oh."
"Kay."
"Thx."

He sighed and laid the phone back on Hawks' lap. "Had fun?" Hawks asked, causing Dabi to jump up. "Wow! Birdie?! Hi." He mumbles. "Like stealing shit, huh?" Hawks asks, in which Dabi chuckled in reply. "I bet ya, Hawks. Mirko texted, by the way." He said. "Ah, thanks." Hawks says and accesses his phone again. "You need a password, any villain or civilian can look into your private matters." Dabi advised. "Mh. I'll look into it. Thanks." Hawks says. Dabi smiled, his heart took a leap and his cheeks heated up. Thankfully, due to the scar tissue and laboured burns under his eyes, hiding and his dark circles from tiredness, and a huge part of his blush. He obviously has a girlfriend. Dabi told himself. He texted Toga, she knew alot about heroes, maybe also dating rumours.

"Oi, crazy."
"What? I'm hanging with my girl, dude."
"Do you know if Hawks is dating someone?"
"No. Why?"
"Reasons. My Hanahaki is acting up again."
"Oh! I'll ask Ochako-chan if she knows something."
"Thanks."
"He's single and gay. Shoot your shot, bro."

That caused Dabi's heart to jump. He was gay? And single?! Fuck. Dabi's cheeks heated up way more, he figured Hawks would be able to see the red coming from under his scars.

"Thanks, Toga. Fuck the gay panic."
"Haha. Have fun sexing Hawks up."
"TOGA."

Dabi sighed. Sex with Hawks? Who'd be the bottom? Who'd be the top? What? Dabi shoved it off and looked at Hawks, his cheeks flaming red. "Hawks?" Dabi mumbles upon realising Hawks' bright red cheeks. "A friend of mine is asking about my sex life. Its kinda embarrassing." Hawks admitted. "Mirko?" Dabi asks. "Yep." Hawks admitted. Dabi chuckled.
