The next day at school, Will (very predictably) could not focus.
He felt like he wasn't even in his body. For all of first hour, he barely talked to Nico, because every time he looked at him he could feel the warmth of his lips and the fluttering in his stomach and- he would look away.
Will couldn't even remember the hours following that before lunch. He just remembered really wanting to go to lunch to see Nico again, even though he knew he wouldn't be able to talk to him. A sort of catch-22.
Finally, lunch arrived. Will had scarcely talked to Lou Ellen and Cecil that morning, because he was a terrible liar and he knew they'd be able to tell something was up. Unfortunately, they sat across from him at the lunch table, while the guy he liked - and kissed - sat right at his side. Overall not a great situation.
Will sat down at his table, where everyone was already seated. Nico smiled at him as he sat down. Was that normal? Did he always do that? Will tried to smile back. It probably looked more like a grimace. What was wrong with him?
As expected, Lou Ellen and Cecil immediately noticed something up with Will. They exchanged a look at each other, then at Will, then Nico, then back to each other. Real inconspicuous. Will fidgeted uncomfortably. His leg bumped Nico's. He wanted to die.
"Will," Lou Ellen said, lacing her fingers together and leaning forward. "Can you come with me to the bathroom?"
"What? Why would I go with you-"
"Good. Come on."
Will opened his mouth to object, but Lou Ellen kicked him sharply in the shin under the table. She stood up expectantly.
"Fine," Will mumbled through gritted teeth. He stood, stumbling a bit on the leg that Lou Ellen had impaired.
Lou Ellen was walking briskly out of the lunchroom and down the hallway, and Will limped quickly to keep up with her. He wasn't sure why he was so eager to follow her; he had an idea of what was going to happen. And it wasn't great.
Lou Ellen pulled him into the girl's bathroom. This in itself wasn't really a problem; Will usually used the girl's bathroom anyways. His problem came in when Lou Ellen pushed him against the wall and hissed "What the fuck is going on, Will?"
Somehow, despite Lou Ellen being a good 3 inches shorter than him, Will felt threatened by her getting in his face. "Nothing," he said, trying to pull out of her hold. "Let go."
"I'll let go when you stop LYING." Lou Ellen said, though her grip loosened slightly. "This is the weirdest I've ever seen you act. And you've hid some pretty big secrets from me over the years."
"It's really not a big deal-"
"Then tell me."
Will faltered, because he didn't really know what to say back to that. "Uh-"
Conveniently, the noise of someone else running down the hall to the bathroom distracted both of them. Will managed to pull himself out of Lou Ellen's hold, and they watched as Cecil appeared in the doorway of the bathroom.
He walked in, a grin on his face. "Hey. Sorry it took me a minute."
"You shouldn't be in here. Girl's room." Will mumbled.
"You're in here."
"That's different- wait. Did you leave Nico alone at the table?"
"He'll be okay."
"So you did? He's going to be suspicious that we're all in the bathroom."
"I told him that all of our periods are synced because we're such close friends."
