Bright blue flames roared towards the Tenebrarum soldiers. Screams rose as the fire tore through the lines of men. The lines closest to Cal collapsed into ash.
They started to turn back. But they were not going to escape her flames.

He ran through the streets, slaying anyone in his path. He had to get to the Light-Bringer. Only the Light-Bringer could turn the tide and prevent Melania from being happy.
He had already driven the girl into madness. Her magic was what kept pulling her down further and further into the depths of her magical insanity.
"Gods be damned!" he heard someone curse. It was the Everlight.
He glanced over his shoulder and saw the Everlight running after him. He sprinted through the outer blocks and the Light-Bringer came into view.
"Light-Bringer!" he screamed.
-
Cal turned to glance over her shoulder. James ran towards her, a sword in hand and her father was hot on his heels. She dove into her light magic, and flung a hand out at James.
He screamed as Cal pushed her light towards him. His pace slowed and his footsteps began to stagger. He screamed in agony and fell to his knees before her.
Cal cried out as her magic tore at her. But she kept pushing.
"Come back to me, Matias!" she shrieked. "Come back home!"
Cal stopped the flow of fire and hurled her magic at him with everything she had.
-
There was nothing but darkness. And then there was a small light. It fractured and splintered the darkness. Then came the fire and ash. The light tugged at him.
The demon shrieked and fought back against the light.
A woman's voice beckoned him-begging him to come back to her.
"Come back to me, Matias! Please!" she begged.
You don't know that name! the demon hissed.
He couldn't tell if he was the one who was screaming, or if it was the demon, or if it was both of them.
"Come home with me!" the woman yelled.
The light got even brighter. The demon was screaming and it ripped at him.
"Please, Matias!"
Matias. His name was Matias.
The light tore at the demon but left him unscathed. It shone in his eyes and he felt warm-almost as if he was sitting beside a fire.
"Please come home, Matias!"
Who was that woman? Was it Calista who was calling out to him? Or was it his late mother Elain?
You all will regret this! the demon screeched.
With one final push, Matias broke away from the demon and walked into the light.
