2 YEARS LATER
"Make way please!"
Sirens echoed through the hallways of the emergency room as a group of professionals raced the hospital bed towards the operating theatre.
A patient had just been sent in after a fatal car accident.
Amongst them, a certain brunette was frantically putting her hair into a bun, getting information from the paramedics.
"Minju! Scrub on. You'll be assisting me with this one."
—
After four long hours of trying to stop the internal bleeding, fortunately, the woman was fine.
Minju collapsed onto the bench in the locker room, taking the time to clear her mind. It has been 26 hours since her shift started. She was supposed to head home last night but the monsoon season met with several road accidents.
As expected from Residency.
The brunette sighed, reaching for her phone next to her to check the time.
3 am.
She saw a few messages from Yujin that replied to her previous messages. She hasn't replied yet, not wanting to wake the girl when she has her final presentation tomorrow.
Her final project presentation before she graduates.
Minju took her time, changing into her home clothes, looking forward to clocking out after a long day or two. She had missed Yujin for sure but knew she'd see the latter at home.
Taking her tote bag, she closed the locker and headed out. She undid her bun, ruffling her fingers through her hair to loosen it while she pressed the lift button.
She made it to the lobby, greeting the nurses on night shift, bidding her goodbyes and even receiving a bottle of vitamin drink from one of them.
Walking to the entrance of the building, she caught sight of a familiar silhouette sitting before the receptionist. The girl had her legs crossed one on top of the other, her long wavy hair cascading down her back.
Minju took a few more steps, hoping it wasn't who she thought it was.
But there she was—her dear girlfriend dozing off in the chair. Minju had to admit that the chairs in this hospital were comfortable, cushioned with velvety material.
Even though she didn't wish for Yujin to be here, wanting her to get some rest after a long day of school, most of her was grateful to see Yujin here, waiting.
Quietly, she made her way next to Yujin and sat down. She admired the girl, wondering how long she had been waiting here. There wasn't a message from Yujin telling her she'd be here. The latter always did that.
Minju couldn't help but take the chance to snap some pictures of the girl, planning to use them to tease her later on.
When Yujin's head started leaning to the side, Minju sat upright. Eventually, the younger girl's head met with her shoulder, the sudden drop waking her.
"I'm sorry." Yujin bowed slightly, looking up to see Minju. "Oh?" She reacted, lips curling into a smile.
"I told you to stay at home." Minju used her fingers to comb the latter's hair. "Your presentation's less than twelve hours away. You should be sleeping by now."
Yujin smiled at the warmth of Minju's worry. "I can't without you," she said. "I'm nervous."
The older girl sighed and stood up, not wanting to waste another minute of Yujin's rest. "Let's go home."
