Chapter 1 - The Dance
(Rosie's Point of View)
"I can't believe I'm going to this dance Liz." I called from my washroom. I looked at my white crystal embellished dress that for once flatteringly hugged my skinny fit body. My brown mid-length hair was curled and pinned into a soft "romantic" side bun, and I had a small amount of mascara and lip gloss on my face. This was as far as I ever went with makeup or even hair for that matter.
"You look stunnning Rosie, now put your mask on and let's get to the show!" Liz my closest friend from Westbank High School shouted and motioned me to get out and start towards her car. I huffed and tied the purple ribbon of my mask on to my face and grabbed my clutch as I followed her out.
"We are going to have so much fun Rosie! Brighten up, this is your first dance and probably your only one so please lighten up. No one will know you so you can't be embarrassed." Liz compiled to me as she shut the door to her black Roles Royce car. Her family was so rich, she could buy any ones friendship yet she chose me. I knew she was a good friend for sticking by my lonesome self. She brought out the best in me and was the last friend I had that hadn't moved. Literally, all of my friends have moved at one point in time. And all that was left was Liz who I couldn't be more happier with.
"Okay, but it's not like anyone knows me anyways. But I guess tonight since no one can see me I'll try to have fun." I replied.
"Maybe you'll get to dance with Jake or the populars! Oh how awesome would that be?" Liz cried. I rolled my eyes.
"I heard Jake will be wearing a purple mask, so look out Rosie!" Liz said teasingly.
"Haha, yeah like that would ever happen. And even if we did dance together, nothing would happen. He doesn't know who I am even though we're in all of the same classes together except art. He is also a player." I giggled without a doubt.
"Honey, trust me. Tonight, any of these guys will be falling for you. You look stunning and they can always get to know you." Liz offered nicely as we pulled up to the special vallet parking to our school.
"Liz you're the best, hounestly. You're gorgeous, smart and always know how to make me feel better. Let's go out tonight and have some fun for once not by ourselves." I said as I hugged her and we stepped out of the car.
"Oh my gosh Rosie, so many guys are checking you out!" Liz nugged me. I got a little red, the thought of boys noticing me embarrassed me.
"Really? I didn't even see them look Liz. You're just saying things now." I whispered back.
"No really! I'm not jocking." Liz looked at me as we entered the gym. It looked incredible. The place where I felt awkward to show how good I actually was at sports was now a starry light room. My eyes lit up as I smiled.
"Come on! It's time to partay!" Liz shouted over the loud booming music. She grabbed my hand and pulled me into the crowd of people dancing. I was tense at first but then loosened up after watching Lizs' funny dance moves and realizing that I had my mask on like every one else.
Swaying, jumping... and sweating a bit, to the music of Thrift Shop (ft. Wanz) by Macklmore and Ryan Lewis I felt free. Like I had nothing to worry about. Until... I felt someone come up behind me and grind me. I quickly turned around and pushed the dude away and gave my best "ew" face and grabbed Liz's hand and moved to a new area. After about 3 songs, and having 4 more guys try and dance with me (ehm... grind up from behind me) I told Liz I was getting a drink. She looked like she was enjoying her self with someone else ridding her, but she was okay with it. Me on the other hand, yeah no. A little too inappropriate for me to handle.
