Chapter 3 - To the Forest We Go

(Rosie's Point of View)

It's Friday. I'm really nervous for the trip to Mount Evergreen with Jake. Hopefully I won't embarrass myself too much.

I finished drinking my fruit smoothie I made for breakfast and then grabbed my backpack and headed to school. All of my camping stuff for the trip was packed on the bus with everyone elses. Now all I had to do was get there and wait for it to begin as quickly as I hope this trip will end. Jake still hasn't made any effort to find my alter name "Cupcake",  goes to show it was just an act that night of the masquerade dance.

Once I arrived at school I hoped on the bus loading all of my fellow classmates going on the trip. I can do this. I can do this. I just have to get through a week without killing myself.

I was looking out the window and saw Jake. He noticed me from the lineup he was standing in to get on the bus and he started waving to me. The other 2 girls he was previously talking to stared at me in disgust, I could see them mouthing something about "who is that girl". I quickly turned my head in embarrassment from Jake, not waving back. That made me feel even worse because it's always better to be the one to have waved then the one who didn't wave back.

A minute later Jake plopped into the empty seat beside mine, causing the air in the cushioning to make me slightly rise.

"Hey Rosie! Didn't you see me outside waving to you?" Jake asked me with a smile.

"Um no I didn't. I was probably looking somewhere else. Haha, sorry." I embarrassingly said as my face started to blush.

"Oh that's okay." Jake said still smiling softly at me.

"So are you ready to camp?" I nudged him playfully, regaining the colour composition of my face.

"Haha, yeah I'm pumped. I haven't gone camping since last summer so it'll be nice to get a change in scenery mid-school year. " Jake replied.

"Okay let's take attendance and then we're off!" Our teacher announced at the head of bus. Everyone hushed down knowing if they didn't, Mr. Hendricks would give us a huge lecture on the importance of chivalry and respect. And it was a pain enough listening to him repeat it in class, but on a bus... No one was going to risk having to be crammed in on a bus wasting precious time listening to a repeated speech when we could all be camping.

The bus ride with Jake beside me was surprising. He talked to me the whole time instead of his friends and was laughing at everything I had to say... well that is until he insisted I use his shoulder as a pillow as I fell asleep. It was uncomfortable at first. Then it became even more uncomfortable when he placed my free hand on his lap an put his warm muscular hand over mine. It then became comforting as I dose off into a wonderful turned nightmare dream.

"No don't eat me. Don't. Please!" I shrieked. I felt a push on me. It was Jake trying to waked me up.

"Rosie are you okay, wake up." He concerningly whispered to me as my eyes widened and my nightmare faded away. Well that was a little embarrassing.

I lifted my  sore neck and rubbed it with my hand that came out from under his hand, I barely noticed that he blushed and looked down for a moment.

"Where are we." I asked confused still thinking I was in some forest being chased by animals.

"We're almost there, but I just woke you because you were kinda screaming in your sleep. Night mare?" Jake asked.

"Oh, haha. Yeah it was about um... some cougars and wolves attacking us while we were camping. Now I'm so freaked out!" I worriedly looked at him.
