Chapter Fourteen - Bribery

Vine watched Billy stumble from the bed, scrambling to her side of the room, his eyes panicked.

But she found this time when she pointed to the far corner of the room where she wanted him to go, he actually listened and did what she requested.

She wasn't sure what had changed but she figured from reading his thoughts that maybe he knew he had a better chance to survive if he listened to her.

The monsters came in, thrashing, clawing, screeching, growling.

Many she had seen before and others that were new.

One of the monsters that came towards her she could tell was once human.

He had the same hungry pained look as her brother.

|His skin was warped around and stretching out of the hospital gown.

But the skin was blistering and dripping with pus.

His clawed like fingers now stretched hungrily towards her.

But before he could even grasp around her flesh.

His pained eyes exploded as she crushed his brain with her mind.

Vine caught glimpses of Billy as she fought.

He was crouched in the far corner of her room, whimpering, trembling.

His eyes darting from each monster that rushed towards him and then to Vine as she stopped every one from being able to approach him.

She couldn't concentrate on Billy's thoughts over the crowd of the monsters.

Some of the monsters who were once human had thoughts such as

"Must feed ...must feed... so hungry.. "

or

"it hurts .. must stop.. hurt"

Some were even wishing for death.

She granted it to all of them some that wished to die and some that did not.

It would of been dangerous for her to enter the minds of the monsters from the upside down. 

But here it was safe because the monsters weren't part of the hive mind, here the monsters were separated from Vecna by her blood and were either created here with samples of her blood and samples from the upside down or they were taken from the upside down and had her dna mixed in with theirs. . 

That's why it was so risky to go looking for Max or El.

They didn't have her blood in them. 

But Max was less risky because she was born human. Its easier to connect with max through dreams or thoughts. but she doesn't have much protection so its still risky. 

But El is more open to Vecna because she has opened her mind to him. So its even more risky. The psychic link between them is strong. Making Vine more vulnerable to discovery when she makes herself known to EL. 

Because her thoughts are distracting her, one of the demorgorgans was now leering over Billy. 

Moving her head to the side she cracked its neck as another monsters claw dug into her rib.

"ahh shit" she swore flinging the monster back. 

Not allowing anything else to distract her. 

She guarded Billy and herself for what felt like forever. 

Then it was over and she sunk to her knees. 

"its done" she managed to utter. 

She watched Billy wipe his nose on his hand. Blink back the rest of his tears and make his way slowly towards her. His movements were slow and cautious as he stepped around the piles of dead bodies.
