I paced in our room extremely nervous. I messed with the dress for the hundredth time since putting it on. It really was the perfect dress but I didn't feel worthy of it. "Lydia. It's time to leave." I felt the knot building and finally left my room. When I finally came down, both Matthew and Marilla stared at me. I never asked for anything so I guess seeing me in a nice dress was a whole new experience. "Does it look all right?" "You look perfect. Now come. I'll have to set a blanket in the back of the buggy so you don't ruin the dress." I nodded. "Yes Marilla.""It's amazing." I glanced around at everything. "It's so thrilling!" "It's a death trap." I waited outside the tent as Matthew, Marilla, and Anne set up for the exhibition. I was taken aback by all the people but that made it more enjoyable. I let myself take deep breaths because today was the day, maybe, that I would tell Gilbert. But I was continuing to second guess myself if it was the right choice. I didn't want to ruin what... friendship we had. Telling him would ruin everything. "Come on." Anne showed up and pulled me through the fair. "We have an hour. I'm sure you brought enough to cover for yourself." "And for you if you need it. I did catch the bookstore owner in Carmody setting up." "You would see a bookstore." "Same goes for you." We giggled and continued on our way.
"Look. A fortune teller." "I don't know Anne." "Lets have our fortune told. It will pave the way to a wonderful adventure." I let her pull me inside. "Lady Lyudmila. We have a desperate need for an answer." Anne was quick to sit. "Well, you've come to the right place." "I'm looking for a sign, or anything that involves my future." I saw the woman holding out her hand. "You're here for romance. That's why you're wearing this dress. You hope to impress a boy today." "Actually that would be my sister Lydia." "Ah. Both of you here mixes me up. Let's see. You're future is full of wonder. A promise." Anne was staring in wonder. "This promise will be fulfilled." She nodded and paid the woman before having me sit. "Let me see." She left behind a curtain for a moment then set down a clear globe full of smoke. "You see, the round shape represents the ability to see from all directions. Past, present, future." "Future, please. What if it's not good?" "I'm sure only good news on a fine day such as this." "I want details please. Not what you think I want to hear." "Of course, I'm only here to guide you on to true path. You must trust. Now... think about your question very clearly." It took me a moment before thinking of the question I wanted the most. "Now mystic spirits will... hey. Name." "Lydia." "Will Lydia find true love?" I stared at the woman skeptical as she hummed.. she must of given this answer multiple times. "Yes... that'll be ten cents." "That's it?" She hummed again. "He's tall and his eyes watch with curiosity." I gave her the money and went outside wanting to roll my eyes. "I don't believe a word she said." "Come on Lydia. We have the whole fair to go through in an hour.
