KAZ'S POV:
By the time Kaz had woken up, Soph had already gone downstairs, presumably to find food.
Fuck.
Kaz blinked, trying to shake off the events of yesterday.
Okay, so what if I just decided to forget about anything and everything that happened yesterday? Ohhhhh nooooo I hit my head on a rock and gave myself a concussionnnnn I don't remember anything that happened yesterdayyyy what a shameeeeee~ or some shit.
She rolled off the bed, immediately feeling an intense pain in her leg.
Fuuuccccckkkkk.
She winced, but slowly walked towards the door despite the pain.
It's fineeee, I don't need to bother a certain someone about it, I'm not that useless.
She walked through the door and down the steps, ignoring the pain. Well, trying to.
That. Fucking. Hurts.
Slowly but surely, she made her way downstairs, looking around the house for Soph. Eventually she went to the kitchen, and, yup, there she was.
~
Soph's POV:'
Soph felt someone watching her. She looked up, and sure enough, Kaz had woken up.
Finally.
"Oh hey!" Soph grinned from where she was sitting on the kitchen counter, cleaning her bat.
"Hey," Kaz mumbled.
"So unfortunately, we have no coffee. Not that it matters because we don't even have hot water."
"Fuck, I had hoped this house would have had it," Kaz replied, grumbling.
People don't really stock up on it in the apocalypse-
"Also, I have an idea as to what we should do next, just hear me out. Let's go to the beach."
"What," Kaz stared.
Soph shrugged and leaned back, tapping the bat against her knee, "I mean, the population levels would be lower, most zombies would be in big cities, but not in places that people go for the summer because the apocalypse began in winter. Yeah, maybe it spread there later, but it's worth a shot, no?"
Kaz stared blankly for a moment, before shrugging, "Yeah, sure. Why not?"
Insert the very awkward pause.
Then, "How'd that happen?" Soph nodded to the other girl's arm. Kaz looked down, noticing a long red line down her forearm.
"Huh, reckon an undead scratched me."
Soph froze. No. "Kaz-"
"It's only the bites, chill."
"How'd you know, what if you get infected even if a zombie only breaks the skin?"
Kaz sighed, "I don't think so." But what if-
"No. No. I'm not risking it," Soph hopped off the counter and started walking towards the bedroom.
No.
Kaz tried to block her, "wait-"
Soph brushed past her and reached down, grabbing her bag. This all felt very familiar. Deja vu. "I made the deal with someone untouched by the undead. I'm not going to risk being bitten in my sleep just because you're certain scratches don't count," she said, pointing her bat at her.
~
Kaz's POV:
I really should have just let go when I had the chance. Saints spare me, this girl asks me to be my partner and then ditches me.
~
Soph's POV:
She waited for Kaz to step aside, then left the bedroom. The other girl did not follow.
I'm not doing this again. I'm not going to be forced to do what Hanna did.
