Rick's POV

"Yay heatwave, not excited," Drew says. "Felt that, swats working with the ROC unit (Rapid Offender Control) all week,] so we get to be in plain clothes," I say. "Must be nice, I may pull a TC, and wear cargo pants instead of scrub pants,"

Drew's POV

An hour later

Rick had left for work, and I was in the shower, when I heard a knock on the bedroom door. "Yeah," "Can I come in?" I hear Krista say. "Sure, I'm in the shower though," I say. "I don't care that you're in the shower," She says, coming into the room. "What's up?" "Nothing, Do you know when Topher and TC get back?" "Nope, when they get Ali stable enough, and do the LVAD, then they're on the next flight out," I say. "Do you think they'll make it out?" "I hope so," "Me too. Anyways, thank you for letting me talk to you, I will now let you shower and get dressed in peace," Krista says. "You know, I don't care if you're in here while I get dressed, I have a closet that has a door on it that I can close. Plus, I never shower in peace and quiet anymore anyways," "Right, because of an almost 2 year old," "Yup," I say grabbing my towel, and drying myself off the best I could while still standing in the shower, and then wrapping it around my waist and walking over to the closet. "Do you and Rick want to go to breakfast after work?" "Depends, I'm waiting for an email from USAFA, to see if they want Rick and I to speak about working in combat rescue and being a pararescuemen and a pilot," "Ah, let me know," "Will do,"

Later

"Ah, the email," I say, looking at my laptop while sitting at the nurses desk. "What email?" Jordan asks. "Rick and I were asked to speak to a fleet of USAFA cadets about Pararescue and flying helicopters," I say. "So you need a week off?" "Sure, I think we're going to drive there anyways because we're taking Ryler with us," "Fun," "Yeah. Somebody got him an early birthday present, and got Ryler a toddler sized Air Force uniform, all we need to do is get him name tapes, and he's set," "Who would this someone be?" "My mother," I say, as I feel the air conditioning turn off. "Did the air conditioning just break down?" I ask. "Most likely. How's your tattoo coming?" Jordan asks. "It's going, I'm only two sessions in, and have the outline of it done, now it's onto color and shading," I say, showing Jordan my arm.

"Jordan, I need some help!" Krista yells. "Gotta go," "Yeah, now I have to call Rick," Jordan went to help Krista, and I opened my phone and pressed Rick's contact. "Sup," "Not much, other than I got an email from that person from USAFA, and they want us to go talk about helicopters, and pararescue," "Okay, I'll ask for a week off, as I'm assuming you did too," Yeah," "Drew!" "I gotta go, love you, be careful," "You be careful, and I love you too,"

After shift

I got home from picking Ryler up, and tried to turn the TV on, but the power had gone out, so I opened all the windows in the house, and took a cold shower. I went out to the living room, and Ryler and Zilla were sitting on the couch. "What's up buddy?" I say sitting down. "Da, home?" "He'll be home soon," I say as the dog climbs in my lap.

30 minutes later

Rick walked through the door walking like he got hurt. "Are you okay?" I ask. "No, I got tased at work, in the back, and it went down my leg, and through my prosthetic," Rick says. "Ouch," "It wasn't fun, it hurt a lot,"

A few days Later

We drove to Colorado, and got a hotel near the academy.

We met with the person in charge of the presentation. "Thank you for coming," He said, shaking our hands. "Your welcome, it gives us an excuse to get out of the heatwave that's going on in Texas right now," I say.

The Presentation started, and Rick started talking.

Rick's POV

After introducing ourselves, we went through our presentation, and then the cadets started asking questions. "What's one thing that you tell airmen or other cadets when they want to be a pararescueman or a pilot?" "Before you get to the Special Warfare Candidate Course, make sure that every day you are working on the requirements, doing the 25-meter underwater swim, the 500-meter swim, the 1.5-mile run, tracking how many pull-ups, sit-ups, and push-ups you can do in 2 minutes. A lot of it is just training for the course. Get your EMT or Paramedic certification, get your scuba qualification, parachute, things that you can get before going to the candidate course," Drew says, and then gestures towards me.

"One thing that I tell Airmen or Cadets, who want to go to Pilot school, is to get as much seat time in as possible, whether that's in the actual aircraft or on the simulator, get as much flying time as you can to get familiar with it. On the simulator, I would try out different aircraft, planes, jets, helicopters, all of it, then you can decide what you want to focus on," I say.

"Is being in pararescue hard?" "Pararescue is one of the most dangerous jobs, the other most dangerous job is being a combat controller. But being a PJ is hard, I see injuries that are way worse than I do when I'm a doctor at my normal job," "What's the most fun part of your job?" "Flying," I say. "Knowing that you're saving another service member's life," Drew says. "That too," I say, agreeing with Drew.

The next week, back in Texas

Drew's POV

There was a public event where people could come see different units, and services, at the Air Force base, so Rick, myself, and our squadron unit were there, showing off our helicopters, and talking about what we do.

I was talking with a family when I heard "Daddy," being yelled. I turned and saw TC, Jordan, Braxton, and Ryler. "Hey buddy," I say, as Ryler runs to me and I pick him up. "As I was saying, before my son ran up to me, to the advantage of my team, I am a doctor, so I'm qualified to do more than what everyone else can, and my husband who's standing behind you over there, flies the helicopter I fly in," I say. "Is this the actual helicopter you fly in?" A boy asks. "Yeah, I sit right here, while Rick flies the helicopter on missions, and sometimes he's able to be in the back with me when we have extra pilots and crew members as he is a paramedic, so people don't get burnt out so quickly," "What's the hardest part of your job?" "Starting an IV while there's wind, and things flying around in the cabin of a helicopter, but I've gotten better at it at it 7 years into my career. My husband not so much, he's still getting used to doing IVs. At least he can perfectly do a chest dart," I say. "Do you have civilian jobs outside of the Air Force?" "Yeah, I work at a hospital as a doctor, and my husband is a Swat captain," "How long have you been together?" "We've been together for 11 years and we've been married for 6 of the 11," "Wow, what's your secret?" "I still don't even know, 11 years into being with him, but we have a lot of the same passions and likes, but we also have differences, so I think that's what's keeping us together, we just fit," "What does your tattoo say?" "That one says, "These Things We Do, That Others May Live,' and it means that I don't care if I have to sacrifice myself so that someone else lives instead of me, it's my job to save another soldier's life, and if that means that I die while doing it, I did what I was supposed to,"

Author Note: I know it's been a while since I uploaded to this, but I'm sort of running out of ideas for both of my Drew and Rick stories. If anyone has some ideas, it would be appreciated.
