Sunoo groaned, smacking the alarm and mumbling, “Five more minutes…”
One hour later—
(because five minutes always turn into an hour)
9:00 a.m.
"YAH, KIM SUNOO! WAKE UP! THE SUN’S ALREADY OVER OUR HEADS! THE WORLD’S BEEN WORKING WHILE YOU’VE BEEN DROOLING IN BED! GET YOUR LAZY ASS DOWN HERE!" his grandma’s voice thundered from downstairs.
Sunoo’s eyes snapped open. He jolted upright and checked the time.
"FUUUUUCK, I’M LATE FOR SCHOOL—!"
"YOU ALREADY GRADUATED, YOU IDIOT! HIGH SCHOOL’S DONE! YOU’VE APPLIED TO UNIVERSITY, REMEMBER? NOW GET DOWN HERE!" his grandma hollered back.
"Oh? Ohhhh yeah, no more school… WAIT—TODAY’S THE UNIVERSITY RESULTS DAY! Oh fridge," Sunoo cursed under his breath. "But first—food. I’m starving."
Still half-asleep, hair a mess, teeth unbrushed, and without even thinking about a shower, Sunoo shuffled downstairs.
He tried sneaking into the kitchen like a ninja but got caught instantly.
"YAH! DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?" Grandma snapped.
"It’s literally 9:05 a.m.," Sunoo deadpanned.
"TOO LATE! I WAKE UP AT 5 A.M. AND I’VE ALREADY CLEANED THE WHOLE HOUSE!"
"Yeah, well... oldies always wake up before 6," he muttered, plopping down at the dining table.
"EXCUSE ME?" she gasped, scandalized.
"I’ve got at least thirty good years left in me," she declared proudly. "I’ll live to see your wedding, play with my great-grandkids, then die peacefully."
"Grandma, I’m a guy. I can’t have kids. And you know I’ve stopped believing in love after I gave him everything."
She sighed but smiled. "You can adopt, dummy. And just because one guy broke your heart doesn’t mean love’s off the table forever. Life’s all about moving on, baby. One day, someone’s gonna walk into your life and stay—because fate will fight to keep you two together."
She set his favorite pancakes and a bowl of fresh fruit in front of him before joining him at the table. Just as she took a bite, she paused.
"I feel like I’m forgetting something…"
Sunoo froze.
*"Shit shit shit, don’t ask about the date, please, please if there’s a god out there—"*
"AHA! YOU DIDN’T TELL ME ABOUT THE DATE I SET YOU UP ON! HOW WAS IT? IS HE BECOMING MY SON-IN-LAW? AM I SEEING YOUR WEDDING BEFORE I DIE? YIPPIEEE!"
*"I’m so screwed,"* Sunoo thought.
"Uhh, grandma, you see…"
After a long, carefully edited explanation (with all the bad parts conveniently trimmed out), his grandma just cackled.
