IT WAS POURING down with rain.

The clouds were a dark grey and they almost merged to the point that the sky seemed like one stormy ceiling. There were strong winds too that exacerbated the sky's cold tears. They plummeted to the ground harshly and the drops made tiny splashes in the puddles that covered the pavements.

The weather seemed foreboding, almost like a harbinger of bad news. I could feel it in the pit of my stomach as an unsettling feeling covered me all day. My father had been in a sombre mood all day and moved around the house with his lips set in a grim line. He had seemed too in his thoughts for me to ask what was troubling him. My mother had been the same, silent and sombre.
