THERE WAS A SLIGHT HUMIDITY ABOUT THE AIR ONCE ALEX FINALLY MADE HER WAY OUTSIDE. Since the accident a few weeks ago, she had strictly refrained from stepping, or rather 'crutching', into the world separate from the four walls of her bedroom.

Alex had her brunette hair tied back into a low ponytail, hair pulled forward to frame her face- in this natural light, she looked just like her father.

Her brother stood beside her, eyeing every movement that she made. Marcus was extra-cautious at trying to prevent his younger sister, who was only just getting used to the clunky crutches, from falling once more.

"Marcus, please, give me a bit of space," Alex breathed out, pressing her weight onto the handles and moving forward, her right knee bent slightly to stop her from causing more damage.

"You can have space when I'm assured you can use those stupid things," Marcus retorted, watching her as she got closer to his car. He opened the passenger door for her and helped her sit down before taking the crutches from her and throwing them in the backseat.

Alex's brother drove the two of them away, the ride being in silence. Neither of them knew what to discuss. Alison's disappearance? Their father's attitude? Returning to school? The unfortunate options were endless and so they silently agreed to discuss nothing.

Marcus parked up a school, immediately jumping out to help Alex. This unusual act of service had not gone unnoticed, she could tell that he felt somewhat responsible. Handing her the crutches, he pressed a kiss to her temple.

"Are you okay to get to class? Do you need help getting there, or to your locker?" he asked, closing the door and locking up as Alex went forward, heading towards the entrance.

"I'm not completely incompetent. I'll see you later," Alex replied, not looking back at her brother as she carefully made her way up the school steps. It was at this moment she realised the necessity for a ramp, it would prove very helpful.

After a struggling minute, Alex got into the corridors, trying to work her way through the hoards of students whom thankfully saw her current state and moved aside. Arriving at her locker, she fiddled out the combination and pulled open the door, shoving a few of the books from her bag in there whilst attempting to balance on one leg, ending up just leaning on the wall of lockers to use as an aid.

Keeping what she needed for her first three periods, Alex pushed away from the wall, slamming the door of her locker shut and freezing when she saw an acquaintance at the end of the corridor. Aria Montgomery. Alex hadn't realised the girl was back.

The two of them locked eyes and Aria stopped in her tracks as well before tearing her eyes away and looking at all of Alex. She saw Emily say something to the much smaller girl who as a result pried her eyes away. Alex would have given anything to hear what she had said.
