IT FELT LIKE MANDATED COMMUNITY SERVICE; THE TIME SPENT WITH THE GIRLS. Not joyous for Alexandria, but instead forced and harrowing. This time, it was focused on a memorial for Ali or a 'shrine' as Alex liked to repeatedly refer to it as, this was before their initial entrance to that particularly eerie woods.

"Whose idea was this, again?" Hanna asked, looking rather uncomfortable among the trees and shrubbery.

"Emily's mom." Spencer replied almost pointedly as they kept on walking.

"The shed was me. My mom just said we should do something for us," Emily corrected, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Well, couldn't we do something without mosquitoes?" Hanna sassed.

"They're not mosquitoes, they're gnats." Aria corrected, Alex remained quiet since they entered the woods, it was one of her spots with Jason. It brought up memories.

"Whatever! They're small and annoying, and they're flying up my nose," Hanna retorted loudly, growing more bugged and annoyed as they went on.

"Well, they're attracted to your perfume. And your hair product. And your lip gloss." Spencer, always one for the quick-witted responses.

"So, what are you saying, I attract flies?" Hanna asked,

"Gnats." Aria.

"Why do I feel like this is the wrong way?" Emily asked, stopping for a moment and looking around her.

"No, this is it. I remember that tree. It's the halfway point. There's 136 steps left to the shed." Spencer reassured her and everyone just stared at her.

"Have you been out here since... Alison?" Emily asked her.

"Me? No. No way."

"But you remember that tree." Aria stated, confused.

"You guys, it's not that weird. I mean, we came out here in eighth grade like, every day... even after." Hanna interrupted, calming a rising argument.

"I think this is the wrong place to do this, this shrine." Alex spoke, the first time that she had. It was a quiet remark but was one that was eerily heard.

"It's not a shrine. It's just a place to remember Alison. What's wrong with that?" Emily asked, she was clearly the most passionate out of them all.

"Doing it way out here makes it look like we have something to hide." Spencer pointed out, taking over what Alex actually thought.

"You're worried what other people think?" Emily asked.

"Well, aren't you? Do you really want to give that creepy Detective more reasons to question us?" Hanna replied almost aggressively.

"Alex, why are you so quiet?" Emily asked the girl who had stuck her hands in her pockets in order to keep warm- she was more frequently cold today.

"Im trying to stop bugs flying into my mouth." Alex pointedly replied, not looking up at them.
