SMILING, THE SOMETIMES FORCEFUL NATURE OF APPEARING HAPPY. Usually happier than you actually are. For Alex, it was a pure con when she smiled. For now, anyway, a sign of when she was particularly happy was if she had a joint and a beer, her golden duo, then you knew she was alright.
Therefore, when Jason saw her sat on the DiLaurentis house porch, with just that in her hands, he knew it was a good time to approach her. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail, she wore a white blouse with a pleated skirt- something straight out of some old boarding school.
"You're looking nice, Jones," he smiled, sitting himself down next to her. The nickname was created out of a conversation in which she completely battered the reputation of her father, saying that even after everything her mother has done- she favoured her to her father.
"I don't recognise that, was that a compliment?" Alex asked, looking back at him and offering him the joint which he gladly took.
"I know, so unusual," Jason smirked, laughing as she took a sip of her drink. Two different actions, yet two actions of the same meaning. They were comfortable, happy and enjoying themselves, "What are you doing out here then?"
"Ali went out for a bit, left me here," Alex responded, tucking a flyaway strand of hair behind her ear.
"God, she's a bitch, isn't she?" Jason asked and Alex stared at him for a second.
"But, she's your sister," Alex stuttered, not quite knowing why Jason would refer to her in such a way.
"Am I wrong, she's toxic?" Jason, breathed out, taking another hit of the joint.
"No... I guess not, it's just my brother would never openly admit it."
"Marcus is a lot better of a man than I am," Jason replied, swapping the joint for her beer. The two frequently shared what they indulged in, not holding back from any worry that may cause from a 'germ' standpoint.
"You know my brother?" Alex smiled, sitting against the railing.
"Oh yeah, he's friends with Eric, right? Eric and I... are acquainted," Jason replied and Alex nodded.
"Yeah, the two of them are always hanging out- it's like a bromance at this point," Alex commented, now just pulling out her hair from the ponytail.
Jason smiled, sitting back against the opposing railing.
"You know, I'm off to a party- you're welcome to join me," Jason offered, taking the finished beer bottle from her and placing it down on the porch.
"Are you sure? I'm not the best company," Alex sighed, crossing her arms over herself.
"I entirely disagree," Jason smiled, standing up and holding out his hand. Alex took his hand, walking down the steps with him.
