As the chill of the night settled in, Arthur lay on his side in the tent, wrapped tightly in his blanket, trying to find warmth in the cold wilderness. The fire outside crackled softly, casting flickering shadows on the canvas walls. He could hear James shifting uncomfortably on the other side of the tent, his breathing shallow and erratic.

"James, you mind keepin' it down? Some of us are tryin' to get some shut-eye here," Arthur grumbled, his voice laced with irritation.

"Sorry, Arthur. I'm just not used to this whole camping thing," James replied sheepishly, his voice betraying his nerves.

Arthur let out a low sigh, realizing that James was truly out of his element. "Well, you better get used to it quick if you plan on surviving out here," he muttered, trying to sound tough despite the weariness in his voice.

Silence enveloped the tent once more, broken only by the occasional rustle of the wind outside. Arthur closed his eyes, trying to ignore the discomfort gnawing at his bones. But as the minutes stretched into hours, sleep remained elusive, and he found himself staring up at the canvas ceiling, lost in his thoughts.

"Hey, Arthur?" James' voice broke through the silence, hesitant yet curious.

"What is it now?" Arthur replied, his tone softer this time, tinged with resignation.

"I was just wondering...how'd you end up out here? You know, living like an outlaw and all," James asked, his voice tinged with genuine curiosity.

Arthur hesitated, surprised by the question. He hadn't expected James to show any interest in his past, let alone his reasons for choosing a life outside the law. But something in James' tone made him reconsider.

"It's a long story, kid. One I ain't too keen on sharing," Arthur replied, his voice guarded yet strangely vulnerable.

James nodded, sensing the reluctance in Arthur's response. "I understand. We all got our reasons, I suppose," he said softly, his words carrying a hint of empathy.

Arthur fell silent, his mind drifting back to a time long gone, to memories he had long tried to bury. And as the fire outside dwindled to embers and the night stretched on, he found himself opening up to James, sharing fragments of his past he had thought long forgotten. In the darkness of the tent, two souls bound by circumstance found comfort in each other's company, if only for a fleeting moment.
