Felix
"Hey faggot" was the only thing that I herd before being barged into and my body practically thrown against a locker, hitting my head causing my vision to black out momentarily.
Regaining myself I try to identify my assailant but fail to do so as the crowded halways provide impeccable camofaluge. I didn't realise that the blow to my bead caused me to drop my books, so bending down I pick them up, well just the one.
A vibration in my pants pocket causes me to jerk slightly, the tingling sensation sensing shvers raking through my spine. Trasfering the boook to my left arm my right hand delves deep into my pocket in order to receive my phone, my hand clasps the device and I pull it out checking the screen as to see who my caller is.
Caller ID: MOM
Pressing the green answer button I lift the phone to my ear to begin the conversation.
"Hey sweetie, how are ya?" My mom says in her soft sweet voice.
"I'm good thank you. You?" I say, my British accent slightly prominent.
And yes, I am a Brit well, I'm no longer a British citizen but I was born and bred in the UK and moved to DC only three months before starting high school, which meant me coming to my mother ad the start of summer vacation.
The story as to why I'm here and not there is because my mother had been training as a nurse in the University Of Westminster and met my biological father in a bar situated not too far from the university, when one thing led to another my mother found out she was pregnant a few days later and when she had told my dad he agreed to take care of me, and not mention her to me. As the time went by my father began to drink heavily until one day he got drunk and drove his car off a road and into a river, his body was pulled from the river but there was nothing they could do and so as a result I was told, by my dad's lawyer, about my mother. As I had finished high school in the UK, I agreed to move to DC with my mother and start high school as a senior even though I was only 16 and the rest 18. It didn't bother me much, I think I had to start as a senior because of my SAT'S results.
"I'm good honey, just a tiny bit stressed that's all: I have a patient whos really unstable but he is now." My mother replied with a tired and exasperated voice.
"Oh, well shouldn't you get back to him just incase he needs you?" I reply concerned and worried.
"No, there's a few nurses and a doctor taking care of him. Look, I'm just calling that I'm not going to be home untill stupid o clock in the morning so you will need to make your brother dinner. Oh! I've left some ingredients for mac and cheese in the fridge so use them." She rushed.
"Okay, yeah sure will do!"
Before I could ask her if I should make anything for her I hear the voice of a man shouting.
"NURSE SMITH! THE PATIENT IS GOING INTO V FIB, GET THE CRASH CART, STAT!" The man screams straining his vocal cords.
"okayloveyoubabytakecareofyourbrother" she says before handing up on me. What she had just said was incoherant to me so I just shrugged and made my way to the dining hall.
The dining hall was always like it was: filled with noisy chattering children sat huddled in groups around tables all while the aroma of food fills the air.
I make my way over to the double doors that lead out into the field where I normally sit on the small tables and just read, I open the doors and walk out into the vast field where the noise of birds fills my ears and the smell of freshly cut grass fills my nose. The table that I usually take is situated under a large cherry blossom that shields me from the sun, I sit down on the seat and place my bag on the table. Opening my bag I take out my book: it's a book on biochemistry and hormones. I read it in preparation for the test that I almost forgot about.
