Chapter 8 - The Two Flames

While Ann Possible's expedition had followed Kong into the Hollow Earth, Henri Serizawa had returned to the Castle Bravo base as quickly as possible. During the trip, he had kept himself informed of developments thanks to the numerous Monarch networks scattered around the world. The titans awakened by Godzilla's alpha call continued their movements while continually ignoring all attempts by military armies to stop them. According to satellite radars, Godzilla was approaching the South of France. Baphomet was approaching the east coast of Canada by land, as was Leviathan by the ocean, where an oil tanker had recently run aground. Sekhmet continued to patrol her territory in Egypt. Rodan was approaching Colombia, just like Quetzalcoatl, towards a place where according to recent reports a factory had been destroyed. Anguirus had reached South Korea, in the area of an important public dump and was no longer moving, as if waiting for something. Gamera moved closer to his position.

While studying the numerous reports, Serizawa once again noted this same coincidence. All the places where the titans were heading were places with high levels of pollution or having recently suffered serious ecological disasters, such as the sinking of this tanker or the destruction of this factory. The director of Monarch was not surprised to know that these shapeless and living masses of mud, referred to as Hedorah, were seen in each of these places or nearby. Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long for governments around the world to react and put even more pressure on Monarch, ordering that the titans be immediately neutralized by all means. But Serizawa had decided to ignore these orders, at the risk of compromising his position as director and even the entire organization, but he didn't care, because deep down, he knew. The titans should not be stopped, on the contrary, they should be supported as much as possible. It was not a mass escape but a war deployment. The titans were at war again and this time the entire planet would be their battlefield.

Finally arriving at the Castle Bravo base, Serizawa didn't waste a moment and took the private elevator down to the Tartarus sector.

There, he found Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable in the hangar where Kiryu was stored. The mecha stood in full stature, motionless and securely moored thanks to support pillars and cables. Thanks to mobile platforms connected to the pillars, dozens of technicians were busy maintaining the different parts of the mecha. Serizawa's gaze lingered for a moment on the immense cybernetic creature, born from the union of the most powerful technology with the DNA of the most powerful creatures in existence. A most dangerous and destructive cocktail as Apex had demonstrated with their own Mechagodzilla, but which with the right technique could offer humanity the most prodigious weapon in the service of the world.

Serizawa then noticed Kim and Ron, both towards Kiryu's left foot and walked towards them. The young couple were busy checking the wiring at the toe of the foot, Kim having literally gone through the hatch inside the foot and Ron waiting above, passing her the necessary tools.

_"Hmm, one of the big toe cables is damaged, it will need to be replaced but nothing complicated. In half an hour it will be fixed." Kim's voice said from inside.

_"Ok, I'm sending the request." Ron replied, sending the request for a new cable to the sector technical workshop on the holo-tablet and then saw Henri. "Hey, Kim. We have a visitor."

Kim Possible then went back up through the trapdoor, helped by Ron to climb out and the couple came to meet the Japanese.

_"Director Serizawa? We weren't expecting you today, we thought you were in Ahtohallan." Kim said, a little surprised to see him.

_"There were complications." replied the director of Monarch somberly. "I assume you've heard about the mass titan awakening that happened several hours ago."

_"The whole world knows about it, that's for sure." Ron said. "And it doesn't take a genius to guess that this is anything but good news."

_"Alas." Serizawa huffed, pacing back and forth. "Godzilla has declared the start of the new war and now the titans under him are preparing. But it's not them that worry me, but rather what they are all preparing to face."
