"Neva really touch dem side a life yah yet..." I jokingly say to my friends as I pull into the school's parking lot. We're technically not authorized to be here, so we couldn't come in a school bus like everyone else.
"See cause mi know almost everybody inna dis." Kareem laughed as he stepped out of the car.
"Bredda wi deven inna key Club, weh wi a do yah frl?" We probably look like some big idlers, honestly. I glanced around at all these students on official business and felt even weirder about the whole thing.
"Oh, dis was a club meeting?" He asks, a stupid smile lingering on his lips. I knew what that meant. Him come fi look gyal. Kareem woulda guh to the ends of the world fi look gyal. " Joshua, calm nuh, nobody cares if we're here."
As we made our way over to the auditorium, I began to come around to the idea of being here. Merl grove girl dem have a buzz low-key. Especially the one greeting everyone at the door.
"Hi welcome to our school!" She said to us, enthusiasm nowhere in her tone. Taking a look at her, she was instantly attractive. Her curls bounced around her, and her voice was silky, even though she sounded annoyed. Her pretty smile dropped after saying those words, though. That made her finer to me, somehow.
I stared at her as I walked past her, but she didn't spare me (or anyone else for that matter) a second glance.
Shame yf.
"I officially call this meeting to order!" Everyone was then asked to take their seats. Once again, she caught my eye. She sat a few seats in front of me, alone and staring at her phone.
"Psst muma, cyah get fi know yuh?" Kareem tapped a girl from queen's shoulder. Yasso di fuckry start.
"But yuh brite eeh" she gave him a disgusted look as she rolled her eyes. Her little group broke out in laughter. The worst part is that they really didn't look good enough to act like this.
