Heatwave and Quickshadow are happy to have their son Hot shot. Despite all that he has been through in his young life. They also found out Hot shot is allergic to tree nuts. But no other kind of food. Hot shot is happy he can still eat peanut butter and he loves peanut butter. He is allergic to all tree nuts from coconuts to walnuts. So he has to avoid them. They see he has great friends they are children of Cybertronian human colonists too. Their names are Hoist, Medix, Whirl and Wedge. They all get along and they didn't mind Hot shot's scar or heart problems. A couple of the kids had issues of their own, little Whirl has ADHD and an allergy to fish, little Hoist was very shy, an allergy to eggs and had kidney problems, little Medix wore glasses, an allergy to peanuts and had high functioning autism and Wedge had type 1 diabetes and an allergy to shellfish. They all could relate to each other about being different. Whirl and Medix had to see a therapist on a regular basis along with a psychologist to talk. Medix also had to see the eye doctor to make sure his glasses are right and if any changes need to be made. Hoist needed to see a nephrologist to see how he is doing if medicine is working, if he needs diallyls or a possible transplant. Wedge has to see endocrinologist and dietitian to keep his diabetes under control with the right knowledge and to make sure he is doing okay.
Hot shot felt glad to have friends to know what is like to see many specialists in the medical field. They all felt like they understood each other.
They all found ways to cope with being different. They were all glad they could understand each other. Hot shot was happy to have friends he could play with.
Hot shot was soon five years old. During that time before then his friend Hoist got a kidney transplant and was doing so much better. Hot shot was glad his friend was feeling better. He was so looking forward to Kindergarten that year. Hot shot had to wear a medical bracelet, as did Hoist, and Wedge. It let people know they had health problems and needed help. Hoist's said he had a kidney transplant and it let people know they need to look for signs of rejection and act on them and the medication he is on. Wedge's let people know he has type 1 diabetes and what to do if he is having a high blood sugar crisis or a low blood sugar crisis and what to do if collapses or passes out. Hot shot's let people know he has heart defects and what to do if he had a heart emergency.
Hot shot was so happy to be in kindergarten when it started. Hot shot saw there were a lot of kids in class.
Hot shot saw there were kids he knew and didn't know in class. Hot shot was eager to get to know all of them. Hot shot saw each table had a shape on it. Hot shot looked around and found his name tag. There was one name tag that let him know that was his seat and another name tag for him to wear to let the kids know his name. Hot shot's table had a big heart on it. Hot shot saw his friends Hoist, Medix, Whirl and Wedge were all sitting at the table. Hot shot had a letter from his parents and doctor to give to his teacher to let her know about his medical condition and he was going to show her his medical bracelet. Hot shot gave her the letter and showed her his bracelet. Wedge also gave a letter and showed her his bracelet. Hoist showed the teacher his medical bracelet too and a list of his medicines some of which he would have to take at the nurses office on school days. There was another kid named Josie how had a letter and medical bracelet. "I see you have medical bracelets too mine let's people know I have epilepsy," Josie said. "That way people will know what to do if I have seizures," she said.
"Mine is because I got a new kidney," Hoist said.
"Mine is because I have type 1 diabetes," Wedge said.
"Mine is because I have heart defects," Hot shot said.
"I have one too," a boy named Mark said. "I have bad asthma which makes it hard to breathe at times," he said.
"I have one because I have several allergies," a girl name Kate said. "I am allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, milk, bee stings, wasp stings, hornet stings, and spider bites," she said.
"That is a lot of allergies," Hot shot said.
"Yes it is," Kate said.
"Okay I have all of your medical problems written down," Ms. Sunrae the teacher said. "Kate I made a note for you to give the lunch ladies at the cafeteria during lunch," she said. "It tells them you have allergies," she said.
"I have allergies too, mine is on my bracelet," Hot shot said. "I am allergic to all tree nuts," he said.
"I have an allergy too," Whirl said. "I am allergic to fish," she said. "I also have ADHD or attention deficit hyperactive disorder," she said.
"I am allergic to peanuts and have high functioning Autism," Medix said.
"I am allergic to eggs," Hoist said.
"I am allergic to shellfish," Wedge said.
"Very good you all told me your allergies," Ms. Sunrae said.
"I'm allergic to grass," one kid named Joe said. "It makes me all itchy," he said.
"I get all sneezy and wheezy whenever there is mold," a girl named Holly said.
"Many people have some sort of allergy," Ms. Sunrae said. "If you all a health thing that your parents want me to see to inform me let me know," she said.
"Okay Ms. Sunrae," the class said.
"Okay everyone let's all have a good day," Ms. Sunrae said.
All of the kids were busy playing. Hot shot was playing with some of the other kids. "Hey where did you get that scar," a boy named Oscar asked when he saw Hot shot's shirt move as he was playing with truck.
"I had surgery done on my heart, I was born with a heart that didn't work right so the doctors had to do many surgeries to help me stay strong," Hot shot said.
"Wow," Oscar said. "I have a scar too," he said. He pulled up his pant leg and reveal a huge scar. "I was trying to help a kid get his kitten down from a tree and fell as I handed him the kitten I had to get 18 stitches," he said. "Before I moved here many kids called it gross and ugly, but when I look at it I see something brave I did to help someone else," he said.
"That is cool," Hot shot said. "I got this scar for being brave to help the doctors make me better," he said.
Hot shot was happy and having a lot of fun. "This is a lot of fun," Hot shot said.
"Okay class time for a story," Ms. Sunrae said. The kids all got into a circle. Ms. Sunrae read a story to them.
Soon Hot shot came home all happy. "I had so much fun," Hot shot said. "I got to know some new kids," he said. "I met other kids who had to wear medical alert bracelets for different things," he said. "I think it is the neatest thing ever," he said.
"That's nice to hear," Quickshadow said.
"My friends Hoist, Medix, Whirl and Wedge they are all in the same class as me," Hot shot said. "I am so happy about that we all sit at the same table," he said.
"That is great son," Heatwave said. "I know that school is going to be wonderful for you son," he said.
Hot shot was looking forward to school to continue to go well. Hot shot was super excited about it and hoped life would continue as normal.
But soon things were going to take a big turn.
