003. She Bangs the Drums.

𖦹

Elijah slowly crept through the house at 6 AM. It only took about 20 minutes to walk to Nolans and he didn't need to be there until 8. However, he couldn't sleep. Maybe in fear of sleeping in. Which normally wouldn't bother him, he loved sleeping. He just didn't want to make Tracy think he's more of a cunt - for some reason.

Tracy stepped outside of her house and sighed as she felt droplets of rain. Goddamn Ireland. She pulled up the hood of her jacket only to see a familiar figure in the distance. Elijah Hewson. She jogged closer to him as her heart throbbed in her chest. Why? She could've just ignored him.

"Ay, I said 8! Not 6:30."

Elijah looked startled as he was taken out of his thoughts. He looked down to Tracy who appeared at his side.

Elijah shrugged.

"Couldn't sleep."

Tracy nodded as their steps fell in time with each other.

"Nervous? Wow... I thought you were a tough lad. The kind that squares up to 6'4 guys without flinching..." she says with a teasing light in her voice.

Elijah chuckled and shook his head whilst giving her a small smile.

"I'm not nervous."

Tracy glanced down at her feet that kept in time with his.

"If you say so..."

"What are you doing up so early?"

Tracy shrugged.

"I always go early. Habit. I have nothing better to do..."

"No friends?" scoffed Elijah.

Tracy gave him a look as her lips curled up in annoyance.

"Unnecessary. I have friends thank you very much. Maybe I gave you too much credit." She said with a disappointed smile.

Elijah sighed.

"I didn't mean it like that... I meant... Y'know.."

"I don't know, actually."

Elijah held her gaze gently and his brows crinkled into an expression of guilt.

"Y'know... I heard people give you a hard time at school and all. And your boyfriend from the other night wasn't so friendly. Violent."

"Well alright, yeah, fine. It's whatever. And it's not like any of your business but he's not my boyfriend. Not anymore. Nobody I know is violent either. Compared to you lot." Tracy said in mentions of Elijah's other friends. Outside of the Inhalers, his friends weren't very kind people. They were roadmen who heckled people from the other side of the street. They enjoyed beating people up who weren't able to protect themselves.

Elijah rubbed his elbow awkwardly as he knew she was getting worked up.

"Everyone is capable of being violent. He was going to hit you. If I hadn't stopped him, he would've. And I would've hit him the second his hand landed on you... If that makes you think less of me.." He trails off.

Tracy swallowed thickly as she felt her face heat up under his gaze. He would have gotten his knuckles bloody for her. To do the right thing. To protect someone who needed it. The thought made her stomach flip-flop around. He didn't have a hood and the rain started to make his hair curl around his face quite prettily. Oh no.

Tracy shook her head and broke eye contact. The pair finally got to Nolans.

"That's different. I'm grateful. I am. I said so in my note... I don't think less of you. I couldn't. It was quite chivalric of you actually."
