I sat back as some of the golden sun poured in the small cabin, and bled onto my face. I squeezed my eyes shut, and sat up. He stretched over, and put his arm over my body. My leg started to cramp up, so I stood up, and I went into the kitchen to maybe start breakfast. We were very good on food supplies, we just needed weapons, friends, and maybe some better clothes. A piece of an egg carton stuck out of one of our cabinets. We decided that we'd have to eat all of the food that would usually be refrigerated first, before they go rotten. John said that one day he'd find a way to hook power up to our fridge. He knew how to do all of that technical stuff, where as I can work on the house, like physically. I picked up on building, and hard labor from my father. He was a carpenter, and a mechanic. I picked up the eggs, and used one of the self-powering skillet we found to start on eggs. I cracked a couple of eggs, and watched them cook, turning them over when I felt they were burning. We ate in silence until he reached over, and grabbed my hand. My head went up, and we locked eyes. I leaned forward, and kissed him on the cheek.
"Everyone I've ever dated died in tragic ways....Just saying" I said giggling.
"I'll die for you any day beautiful" he replied also giggling. I stood up, and walked outside. Is it wrong to date a new guy after someone I loved died? We never were a thing, so technically I think it's fine. The day grew dark as I turned and saw the silhouette of my companion, John. I went back into our candle-lit house, and sat beside him on our bed.
"I'm going on a supply run, just stay here, stay safe. I'm leaving hidden guns around the house. Please be here when I get back, if I get back." he explained. I nodded in agreement, and laid next to him......
My body trembled as I jumped up in terror, I had a dream that John died. I stood up, walking around the house looking for him, he was gone. I wanted to atleast say goodbye... The air was thick, and it was hard to breathe. I didn't want to lose him, being alone against everything scared me. I knew that the compound would be searching for us. If they managed to find me, I'd run, and if John comes back, I wouldn't be here...........
