I'm pretty glad I moved away from my old city. Crime rates were high as all hell, creeps were everywhere, and I even almost got killed from a fucking drive-by. Luckily, Cherry, my childhood best friend, had the idea to have her mom rent out an apartment for me to help me get on my feet in a new place, which was a damn relief on my end. I was worried I would be killed in my own home trying to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Being a relatively known singer and rapper in my community didn't exactly help either.
Cherry and her parents always looked out for me, especially when I was at my lowest. I couldn't have asked for more supportive people in my life, and I'm grateful for everything they did for me. After Cherry moved, things weren't really the same since then. She got a new boyfriend, talked about her new little friends over call, and always made sure to text me every day.
I was glad I could finally see her again.
(11:32 PM)
As the plane landed, I took my bag and made my way towards the baggage claim. I texted Cherry.🍒My Platonic Gf🍒
Hey Cher! I'm headed to baggage claim now.
Sweet! We're waiting
for you rn. See u <3We? Is she talking about her boyfriend? I shook my head. She always had to change plans last minute. It was supposed to be just her and I, but I guessed meeting a new person wouldn't hurt. Besides, I was already relatively familiar with Keith. I occasionally talked to him while Cherry and I called each other.
As I approached my baggage claim, I saw Cherry sitting next to her bright blue haired boyfriend. He was bickering with someone out of view.
As I drew nearer, I saw another male arguing with Keith. He had a green sweater on with a forest green on the sleeves, baggy tan pants, and bright red shoes. His hair was a bright ginger color, which was somewhat spiked. I saw the outline of a gun in his pocket.
How the actual fuck did the airport let him in here with that?
Cherry waved at me like a madwoman. I waved back softly as she ran up to me and bear hugged me in excitement. The two males stopped to turn my way.
That ginger boy REALLY looks familiar.
"Y/n! I'm so happy you made it. Now you can meet everyone in person! You know Keith,"
She pointed to the blue highlighter as he waved with a small beep. "then there's Pico!" Her finger moved to the ginger, who turned his head away pretending to be uninterested. Cherry leaned into my ear and whispered, "Don't mind Pico. He can be a prick, but once he warms up to you, he's a real sweetheart! Just have some patience. He has trust issues." I giggled at this statement. That name sounds really familiar too.
"It's always the tough looking ones who are the sweetest, huh?" I said quietly enough for only Cherry to hear as she giggled. I went to grab my suitcase and noticed Pico glancing at me from my peripheral vision. As I grabbed my bag, I look over only to find him looking away.
Eh, he's probably just looking around.
I walked to Cherry and Keith. "Alright, I'm ready to blow this fuckin' joint." I said, stretching. "Yeah, let's go. Keith, you're driving." She tossed the car keys to the small male as he groaned. "It's so late!" He cried. Cherry gave him a glare and he quickly straightened up. Pico and I laughed at this exchange.
As we walked to the car, I trailed behind so Pico wouldn't be left alone. I could hear him mumbling something to himself before he finally spoke.
"So, what's your deal?"
"Mh?" I looked up at him.
"What made you decide to move here, moron?"
I looked at him with annoyance, but remembered Cherry what had told me about his trust issues. My gaze softened and he definitely noticed. He slightly toned down his attitude. Slightly.
"My city's crime rate got worse and I just needed a place to stay. I'll stay out of your hair if that makes you feel any more comfortable."
He looked away scratching the back of his neck. "Whatever..."
I was the last to get into the car after loading my bags in the trunk, sitting next to Pico in the back. I took my vape from my back pocket and took a hit.
Peach flavored.
I knew it was bad for me, but it helped me forget about my past for once in my life.
"Still smoking, Y/n? I thought you quit a long time ago." Cherry asked, concerned.
I sighed out of guilt.
"I did for a while, but I felt horrible after. I remembered things I wanted to forget, whatever, whatever, you already know the rest."
She looked at me with worried eyes in the rear view mirror. She was the only one who knew. "I'm alright, really." I gave her a reassuring smile and she smiled back in return. I continued puffing on my vape until we got to my apartment.
Stepping inside, I saw all of my boxes were unpacked. I had sent them out a day in advance so Cherry and I could unpack together, but I guess she beat me to it. I hugged her. "Don't thank me y/n, thank them! They did all the heavy lifting." Cherry laughed, pointing to Pico and Keith. I gave them both a warm smile. "Thank you guys so much. This means a lot to me. I'll try not to bother anybody."
Cherry playfully punched my arm.
"What the hell are you talking about? You're always welcome with us!" She hugged Keith. Pico scoffed and looked away, attempting to hide his small smile.
What a prideful bastard.
I chuckled to myself."Oh, Y/n!" Keith spoke. "Tomorrow's Friday. People from all over town gather in different places to rap battle with each other! We do this at night every Friday. It's all in good fun! We were hoping you'd be able to join us or maybe even participate!"
I thought about it.
This does give me a chance to be apart of a group that shares the same interests as I do, and I'll become more familiar with the city...Pico looked at me with slight anticipation along with his friends.
"Mmh... why not?"
Cherry squealed at my affirmative response, jumping in excitement. "We can go to the mall together and we can give you some fresh new outfits to wear for Friday! This is gonna be great!" Keith tried to calm her down while Pico fidgeted with the gun in his pocket.
He's probably nervous about performing in front of someone new. I don't blame him; I'm the same way.
I sighed tiredly with a smile.
After everyone had left, I took a nice, refreshing shower and brushed my teeth, then getting into some comfy clothes.
I laid in bed for a while, scrolling through my phone and thinking about tomorrow. After putting my phone on the charger, I closed my eyes.
Tomorrow's gonna be fun, I guess.
