1:23 AM
The subway arrives. I hold Cyclops in front of me and follow the trio into one of the cars as they cautiously pull their weapons. As expected, (obviously) nobody's on board. We end up sitting somewhat spaced out, Cyclops being right beside me and Pico on my other side. Darnell and Nene sit on opposite sides of the seats, adjacent to us.
I fidget with the gun in my pocket.
Darnell flicks his lighter.
Nene spins her knife.
Pico twirls his gun between his fingers.
Cyclops is... sitting.I look outside to find a bright yet partially empty city. Losing my train of thought looking at the light polluted sky, wondering if I made the right choice of staying with Pico for a bit longer.
I hate him. So much. He's... a dork.
"Yo, Y/n." Darnell says with some concern in his voice. I look up to the sound of his voice. "Hm?"
"We're talkin' about goin' for pancakes after this bullshit blows over. You in or nah?"
You're supposed to cut away after you deal with Cass. Don't get wrapped up with them any longer than you need.
"I'm... good." I sigh tiredly.
"...She should be here soon." Cyclops interjects. The atmosphere in the air changes, everyone grips their own weapons with tension as the subway begins to lose its speed.
The doors slowly slide open to reveal...
...nobody?
"Over here, dumbasses."
Our eyes dart to the owner of the voice...Cassandra.
I guess we were anticipating her coming through the doors closest to us, we kinda forgot that there were other cars that she could've entered. She's armed with an AK-47.
"You're outnumbered here, bitch." Pico snarls.
Cyclops almost jumps out of pure joy of seeing Cassandra. "HELLO CASSANDRA! I got them here just like you asked, is it time?!" He yelps.
She smirks and nods before all of the lights break in the subway, leaving us all almost completely in the dark. The city lights slightly illuminate the area, but not by much because of how far we are from the area. Cyclops struggles from my grasp and he disappears along with Cassandra. Her laughs echo throughout the cars.
"She didn't come alone."
Pico, Nene, and Darnell all back up in the middle of the subway car along with me, touching our backs together to close off any sort of weak spots. I feel a bullet whiz past my cheek, the brief burning sensation leaving as quickly as it came.
She's toying with us.
I grit my teeth while Pico aims into the darkness and shoots. "We're going back into the city in less than a minute. If we can just hold them over for that period of time, we can get them in the light." I mumble to the group. Cassandra's bullets whiz through the air and we all duck for cover. Cyclops is still nowhere to be found and Cassandra's little piece of shit minions are all armed with... something. The trio seems preoccupied with killing Cassandra, however.
As the gunshots echo throughout the subway, I crawl underneath the seats drawing closer to the noise of Cassandra's AK. The closer I get, the more flashbacks I have of those same sounds ringing in my ears from all those years ago. Nene's knives clank against the metal poles and floor as she blindly throws them towards Cassandra, attempting to hit her out of pure frustration. "Try harder, Barbie!"
One of Darnell's cans of spray paint rolls on the ground right next to Cassandra. I quickly back away from her and hide behind a panel on the seats. The can explodes at her feet and I see a bright flash, a loud BOOM to follow suit along with an agonized shriek from Cass. In that quick flash, I saw Cyclops' silhouette approaching behind Pico as well as several of Cassandra's goons surrounding Nene and Darnell. "GUYS! BEHIND YOU!" I shout.
I feel myself getting dragged from behind the panel, Cassandra engaging me in a one-on-one. Part of her arm is shredded from the metal of Darnell's can. She lost her AK.
I quickly kick her injured arm so she lets go of my foot. I scramble to my feet and pull my knife on her, to which she happily charges at me. After evading the first hit, she quickly kicks me off my feet and I hear the knife AND gun slide away from me. I feel her hands wrap around my throat in a not-so-sexy way and the pressure quickly intensifies. I reach for anything I can but... nothing's there. Everything is bolted to the damned floor.
I hear her cry out and I watch as the lights from the city illuminate the subway car. Clear as day, I see one of Nene's knives in her shoulder. I look to Nene and Darnell, who were struggling with some of Cassandra's goons. Nene was able to buy me some time. I look at Pico, who's struggling with Cyclops for his gun. I kick Cassandra off of me, driving the knife deeper into her shoulder blade. I crawl towards the gun and stand between Cassandra, who was getting away, and the trio, who were getting overwhelmed by Cassandra's mini squad. She knew she couldn't use either of her arms to fight anymore, so she chose to actually leave her group to fend for themselves while she ran away once again.
Facing a difficult decision, I close my eyes and think.
Think.
Think.
Think.
She's getting away.But my... friends?
Friends.
Cassandra.I feel more sweat form on my forehead.
-Pico's POV 🔫-
This is the end. There's too much going on and we're getting overrun.
Cyclops forces the doors of the subway car open, dragging me out and lifting me just barely outside towards a 6-story drop, pure concrete.
I won't survive that fall for shit.
I grab onto the doors and cling onto them with all of my strength. "You're really making this worse for yourself, prick-o. Just give up and accept your fuckin' fate. That little girlfriend of yours is just a piece of cake for Cassandra." Cyclops sneers at me.
"Huff... I don't need... some broad... huff... to help me..." I say, still very obviously struggling. Nene and Darnell are getting beaten to death right in front of me and I just can't do anything about it.
Time starts moving slower and I close my eyes.
God damn it.
Sorry, guys.A loud crack echoes through the car, several others following after.
One by one, Cassandra's henchmen drop to the floor like flies while the rest scatter away to the furthest car of the subway. I nearly lose my grip before I feel my sweater being tugged and I'm yanked back inside.
I see Y/n.
More interestingly, I see the gun I tried to give her but she rejected before we left my apartment.I smirk at her.
"Not a damn word, carrot motherfucker." She says before looking off into the distance, where Cassandra escaped. I hold my hands up and stay silent.
Nene and Darnell collapse and are now taking heavy breaths. Everyone's obviously tired. Dejectedly, Y/n sits down and inspects the gun I gave her.
We all look at each other in silence for a while before Y/n abruptly cuts it.
"You guys wanted to get pancakes... right?"
