Y/N POV:It's the 11th of May, and today marks our first anniversary. I can't help but think back to how it all started, that fateful night at a party neither of us really wanted to attend. It was one of those gatherings where you only go because your friends drag you along, promising it'll be "fun." Fun, in this case, meant loud music, too many people, and a questionable punch bowl in the corner.
But it turned out to be the best decision I never actually made, because that's where I met Jennie. Our friends had set us up, introducing us with that smug look people get when they think they know something you don't. I was skeptical at first—blind introductions rarely lead anywhere, right? But then I saw her smile, and suddenly, I was grateful I'd let myself be dragged to that party.
Now, a year later, we're here, sitting across from each other, our eyes locked like we're the only two people left on the planet. Everything else just fades into the background when I'm with her. The weather is always perfect, too, whether it's raining, snowing, or one of those days where the sun won't quit shining. It's like the universe knows, as long as I have Jennie, nothing can be anything but right.
I can't help but smile at the memory of that night. Jennie's laugh echoes in my mind, the way she leaned in closer, telling me some joke that I barely heard because I was too busy trying to memorize every detail of her face. I knew, even then, that she was someone I didn't want to let slip away.
"Do you remember that party?" I ask, breaking the comfortable silence between us.
She looks at me with a grin that says she knows exactly where my mind's at. "How could I forget? You were the one person in the room who looked just as lost as I felt."
"I wasn't lost," I protest, though I know it's a lie. "I was just... strategically hanging back."
"Uh-huh," she teases, leaning in a little closer. "You looked like you were planning your escape route."
"Okay, fine, maybe I was a little lost. But then you showed up, and suddenly, I didn't want to leave."
Her expression softens, and she reaches across the table, taking my hand in hers. It's a simple gesture, but it's one that makes my heart beat a little faster. "I'm glad we both stayed."
"Me too," I admit, feeling a warmth spread through me that has nothing to do with the weather. "I can't believe it's been a year already."
"Time flies when you're having fun," she says with a wink, and I can't help but laugh.
"Or when you're trying to keep up with someone as amazing as you."
She rolls her eyes at that, but there's a blush creeping up her cheeks that tells me she appreciates the compliment, even if she won't admit it.
"So," she says, changing the subject in that casual way she has, "what's the plan for today? Or are we just going to sit here staring at each other like lovesick puppies?"
"Well," I begin, drawing out the suspense, "I thought we'd start with a nice walk through the park, followed by lunch at that little café you love. And then... well, I have a surprise planned for later."
Her eyes light up with curiosity, and I can tell she's dying to know what I've got up my sleeve. "A surprise, huh? You're not going to give me any hints?"
"Not a chance," I reply, enjoying the way she playfully pouts. "You'll just have to wait and see."
She narrows her eyes at me, but there's a smile tugging at her lips. "Fine, but it better be good."
"Oh, it will be," I promise, leaning in to give her a quick kiss. "After all, it's for you."
We finish breakfast, and as we get ready to head out, I can't help but feel excited. It's been a year full of surprises, laughter, and more happiness than I ever thought possible. We step out of the apartment, the sun greets us with a gentle warmth, the kind that makes you want to slow down and savor every moment. Jennie slips her hand into mine, and we fall into an easy stride, making our way to the park. The air is filled with the sounds of spring—birds chirping, leaves rustling, and the distant laughter of kids playing. It's the kind of day that feels almost cinematic, like the world itself is rooting for us.
