"Jennie, I'm nervous," I muttered, wiping my sweaty hands on my pants.

Jennie smiled softly and leaned in to kiss my cheek. "Just be you. I'm sure she'll love you."

I nodded, trying to calm my racing thoughts as I opened the door for us. The closer we got, the faster my heart pounded in my chest, threatening to make me pass out at any moment. Meeting Jennie's mother for the first time felt like stepping into the unknown, and I couldn't shake the anxiety gripping me.

As we reached the entrance to the house, I took a deep breath, willing myself to stay calm before stepping inside.

"Oh my, Jennie! You must be Y/n!" Jennie's mother exclaimed as she pulled Jennie into a tight hug. I stood awkwardly to the side, bowing politely.

"Good evening, Miss Kim. It's nice to finally meet you," I said, trying to keep my voice steady, though my nerves had me standing as stiff as a board. I wasn't quite sure what to do with my hands, but before I could figure it out, she suddenly turned to me and pulled me into a warm hug.

I shot Jennie a helpless look over her shoulder, but Jennie just grinned and gave me a thumbs up, clearly enjoying my discomfort.

When Jennie's mom pulled back, she kept hold of my hands, her smile wide and genuine. "Jennie didn't mention that you're this attractive," she teased, her eyes twinkling.

I felt my face heat up as I tried to recover. "I should be the one saying that! You look absolutely gorgeous—your age doesn't show at all," I complimented her, earning a pleased laugh. As we walked towards the kitchen, I squeezed Jennie's shoulder and added with a grin, "And thank you for giving birth to this beautiful woman right here."

Jennie playfully smacked my shoulder. "You're such a flirt," she muttered, rolling her eyes.

Before I could respond, her mom chimed in, "Ya, Jennie! Don't hit my Y/n like that!" She gave Jennie a light scolding while setting the table, a small smile on her lips. "Y/n, go wash your hands. You must be hungry after driving all this way."

I nodded obediently, trying not to laugh as Jennie pouted and rolled her eyes again. As I headed to the sink, she followed close behind, nudging me with her hip to make room for herself. I chuckled at her antics and, unable to resist, splashed a little water at her from my wet hands.

"Ya! You're lucky my mom likes you!" Jennie said with a mock glare, though her smile betrayed her. I made a teasing face at her, wriggling my eyebrows as she narrowed her eyes at me.

Jennie's mom called from the table, "You two stop messing around and come eat!" Her voice was full of warmth, and I could already smell the delicious food wafting through the air.

As we sat down, Jennie's mom placed a dish in front of me. "I hope you like this. It's Jennie's favorite, so I thought I'd make it for you too."

"It smells amazing," I said sincerely, feeling more relaxed now. "Thank you so much, Miss Kim."

"Call me Mom," she said with a wink. "Any friend of Jennie's is family here."

I glanced at Jennie, who looked at me with an amused smile. Maybe this dinner wouldn't be so nerve-wracking after all.

Jennie's mom smiled warmly at us, the kind of smile that doesn't quite reach the eyes, and I knew we were in for it. The moment Jennie squeezed my hand and announced, "Mom, Y/n and I have something to tell you," my entire body went cold. I choked mid-sip on my tea, coughing like I just inhaled a whole leaf.
