The days stretched into a tense, agonizing silence. Jungkook, a ghost in his own home, awoke to the rhythmic slamming of the front door – Taehyung leaving for the office well before dawn. He spent his days hunched over his computer, meticulously editing his photographs, each click of the mouse a defiant act of self-reclamation. He reconnected with old artist friends, arranging coffee dates and studio visits, their shared passion a balm to his wounded spirit.
One afternoon, while brainstorming for new photo projects, he received a call from Min Ho, a graphic designer at Kim Industries who had assisted him on the marketing presentation for the cancelled exhibition.
"Jungkook-ssi," Min Ho greeted cautiously, "I hope you're doing well."
"Hey, Min Ho," Jungkook replied, his voice devoid of its usual warmth. "I'm getting there. What's up?"
There was a hesitant pause on the other end of the line. "Well," Min Ho finally began, "I just wanted to let you know... they assigned Ms. Bay to handle the marketing strategy for the new investors."
Jungkook's stomach clenched. "Ms. Bay?"
"Yeah, the new PA that started last week. Apparently, she has some experience in marketing," Min Ho explained.
The news hit Jungkook like a punch to the gut. Ms. Bay? Taehyung had replaced him with a new PA so easily? It was a stark reminder of his dispensability. A wave of despair threatened to engulf him, but he pushed it down, focusing on the tightening knot of anger in his chest.
"Thanks for letting me know, Min Ho," he said, his voice tight. "I appreciate it."
They ended the call, and Jungkook slumped back in his chair, staring blankly at the wall. Tears welled up in his eyes, blurring his vision. He felt betrayed, discarded like a used tool. Was this the future he and Taehyung were building? Was he just another replaceable cog in the Kim Industries machine?
The anger, once a simmering ember, flared into a raging inferno. He wouldn't let Taehyung erase him, not his work, not his dreams, not his place in their relationship. He needed to see Taehyung, to confront him, to understand where they stood. But the thought of facing Taehyung's cold indifference, his dismissal of Jungkook's dreams, filled him with dread.
As the days passed, Jungkook threw himself into his photography with a fervor bordering on obsession. He spent long hours capturing the city's hidden beauty, the resilience of its people, the stories etched in every cobbled street and weathered face. His days were consumed by creativity, his nights by a gnawing loneliness.
One evening, he received a call from jiyong, his friend from college. "Jungkook, you coming to Sumin Hyung's art exhibit tonight?" jiyong's voice boomed through the phone.
