Frustration, a thick, suffocating fog, clung to Taehyung like a second skin. He slammed a file shut, the sound echoing in the cavernous silence of his office. Every surface was a battleground littered with paperwork. The pressure from the upcoming investor meeting was a constant weight on his chest, a relentless reminder of his responsibilities.
Across the city, Jungkook, his husband, was probably flitting about like a butterfly, lost in the whims of his photography obsession. The anger that flared at the thought was immediate, a hot coal igniting in his gut. How could Jungkook be so carefree, so oblivious to the storm brewing on the horizon? The company, his legacy, their future - all hung precariously in the balance.
He knew his words the other night had been harsh. "Little hobby" had slipped out, a careless dismissal of Jungkook's passion. But in his mind, it was just that - a distraction, a frivolous pursuit compared to the weight of Kim Industries. His frustration didn't stem from a lack of love, but a clash of priorities.
A pang of guilt stabbed at him as he remembered Jungkook's tear-streaked face, the raw hurt in his eyes. But the guilt was quickly eclipsed by a wave of annoyance. Couldn't Jungkook see the bigger picture? Didn't he understand the sacrifices they both had to make?
Jungkook had accused him of being consumed by the company, of neglecting their relationship. But the truth was, Taehyung loved Jungkook. He loved the way his eyes lit up when he talked about photography, the quiet passion that radiated from him. But love, he believed, had to take a backseat when duty called.
He reached for his phone, debating whether to call Jungkook. An apology wouldn't change anything. The demands of the company wouldn't disappear. He decided against it. There would be time for reconciliation later, after the investor meeting, after the crisis was averted. Right now, every ounce of his energy had to be directed towards saving the company his grandfather built, the company Jungkook seemed so dismissive of.
The day that followed was a relentless blur of meetings, presentations, and late nights poring over financial reports. He barely saw Jungkook, who seemed to exist in a parallel universe of shutter clicks and editing software. The silence in their home was deafening, punctuated only by the rhythmic tapping of Jungkook's keyboard.
One evening, as Taehyung slumped into a chair, exhausted and defeated, Ms. Bay, his new PA, surprised him with a cup of steaming coffee.
"You look like you could use this," she said softly, her voice a soothing balm.
Taehyung took a grateful sip, the warmth spreading through him. He looked up at Ms. Bay, her dark eyes filled with concern. It was a look he hadn't seen from Jungkook in a long time.
"Thank you," he mumbled, the words tasting foreign on his tongue.
They fell into conversation, discussing strategies for the upcoming meeting. Ms. Bay was sharp, efficient, and possessed a keen understanding of the business world. He found himself drawn to her confidence, her unwavering dedication.
