Background- Jessie's been living alone with his brother since his parents died. He has multiple sclerosis and gets sick a lot. His brother has to work all the time and can't be home often when Jessie is sick.
Jessie's POV
I woke up with a tingling sensation on my right side. As soon as I sat up my vision faded in and out. I felt horribly dizzy and tired. My ears rang and I felt my arm shaking. I stumbled out of bed and tried to catch Cody before he left.
"Cody!" I hollered walking through the hallway. He appeared at the bottom of the stairs buttoning his shirt.
"Why aren't you getting ready? I have work." He paused, "Are you okay? Come here, what are you feeling?" my brother asked.
I moved carefully down the stairs. "I don't know, dizzy. My ears are ringing, my right side is tingly." Cody sighed and looked me up and down.
"Go eat some breakfast, I'm going to get the doctor on. I'll be there in a second." He said guiding me to the kitchen. I sat down, my arms trembled and I was barely able to old the spoon in my cereal.
I heard Cody talk for a second then come into the kitchen.
"Stand up," he commanded.
"Yeah, a little." He spoke into the phone. "Walk towards me...uh yeah...yep." He finished and passed me the phone. "Tell the doctor your symptoms."
"Hi Jessie. Since I can't see you, I'm going to take your brothers word for it. Can you tell me what your feeling? I understand you're having balance problems, and your arms seem to be trembling, how bad is that?" The doctor questioned me.
"It's pretty bad. The balance is okay, just having difficulty walking without falling. My right side feels tingly. I'm really dizzy and my vision is fading in and out. My ears are ringing too." I finished explaining and the doctor asked to talk to Cody.
"Okay...thanks, bye." Cody hung up then turned to me.
"I'm sorry Jess but I really need to go. The doctor said to stay home, try and rest. I can't miss work, we need the money. I don't know if you'll be able to reach me but I'll text you the number of my friend. If you can't get me, contact him. I'm sorry, I'll be back later." He finished and scrambled to gather his things.
"Again I'm really sorry Jessie. I'll see you tonight. If it gets really bad, promise me you'll call someone if not me."
He looked like he felt really bad. He ran a hand through his hair as he spoke.
"I promise." The words came out slowly and confused.
He rushed out the door and I knew he was gone as soon as I heard the car start.
Less then ten minutes later I received a text.
My friend Jeremiah: 555-555-5555
Call him if you can't reach me. My work's number is on the fridge if you can't reach either of us. He's not busy so it won't be any bother. It'll be okay.I nodded to myself, saving the number in my phone.
I will don't worry. I'll be okay, I promise.
I responded quickly. He worried way too much.
I got up shakily, vision fading out. I began the journey up to my room. When is finally got up the stairs I finished the struggle to my room.
