August 2024

The season was going to start soon, and Taylor was on her break between the European and second U.S. leg of her tour. Before their busy season picked back up, they had decided to make a stop in Philadelphia to visit Jason, Kylie, and the girls.

The last time they were able to visit in person had been Easter, though both he and Taylor spoke to them over the phone all the time. Kylie and Taylor had grown relatively close, talking more often than not, even as Taylor was traveling through tour stops. And the girls were obsessed with her, especially Elliotte, who had developed a particular fondness for Taylor after their first in-person meeting.

They had volunteered to watch the girls for a few hours in the afternoon, giving Jason and Kylie a well deserved break, and he and Taylor time to bond with the girls. Of course, Elliotte was stuck to Taylor's side, the two of them drawing pictures at the kitchen table, while Bennett sat beside them, watching from her high chair with her own piece of paper and crayons.

Wyatt had wrangled Travis into the living room, forcing him to play with dolls with her. He could still see and hear Taylor and Elliotte from where he was sitting though, and he often glanced up at them from his spot on the floor.

He had seen Taylor with children before; she was around Brittany and Patrick's kids often when she was in Kansas. During one of their quiet visits to New York, they visited Blake and Ryan, and he got to experience firsthand how great she was with children. But there was something different about seeing her with his nieces, and he marveled at how patient and gentle she was with them.

While Wyatt was distracted changing the outfits of the dolls in her hands, he let himself focus on the interaction happening between Elliotte and Taylor. He watched as Elliotte shyly handed Taylor the piece of paper she had been drawing on. Taylor looked at it with a big smile, and said, "Ellie this is beautiful! Is that me?" The little girl nodded. "Thank you so much!"

He then watched as Elliotte slung herself into Taylor's arms, giving her a big hug, while simultaneously saying, "Love you Tay!" Even from the living room, he could tell Taylor's eyes had glazed over with tears.

"I love you too!"

Elliotte asked for another sheet of paper, and Taylor handed it over to her. As she was drawing another picture, she simply stated, "Mommy said you are going to be my auntie."

Taylor met his gaze then, catching him listening. He averted his eyes, looking down at the dolls Wyatt had thrown on the floor, but kept listening to hear what Taylor would say in response. "Well, for that to happen, Uncle Trav and I have to get married first."

"Can you marry him tomorrow?" It was asked with such innocence that both he and Taylor started to laugh. He glanced up to see that Taylor was still looking in his direction.

"No sweetheart, not tomorrow. But, hopefully soon."

Wyatt jumped on Travis, pulling his attention away from Taylor. "Pay attention! The dolls are about to have a party!"

Before he could respond to her demand, Taylor's voice rang out, saving him, "Wyatt, do you want a snack?"

At the mention of food, Wyatt sprinted towards the kitchen, where Taylor had started to pull out crackers and fruit for the girls to eat. She sat a small plate in front of each girl as Travis walked into the kitchen.

"Thank you, Tay!" Wyatt said loudly, with Elliotte echoing in a quieter tone.

Travis came up beside Taylor, wrapping an arm around her waist, whispering his own thank you into her ear.

"You're welcome, all of you."

When Bennett had started to get fussy in her high chair, Taylor looked at her phone and declared, "It's time for your nap." He offered to grab Bennett from the high chair, but as soon as he went to lift her, she whined, her bottom lip sticking out into a pout. She pointed towards Taylor, who gave him a smug grin. "Get used to not being the favorite."

He watched as Taylor lifted Bennett out of the high chair with ease, the baby leaning her head down on Taylor's shoulder. As the two disappeared upstairs, he shifted his attention back to the other girls, who had begun bickering over a crayon. He sighed, and stepped in, with the result being them all sitting on the couch to watch Bluey . After two episodes, both girls had passed out, exhausted from playing all afternoon.

Taylor still hadn't come down from putting Bennett to sleep, so Travis quietly walked up to check on them. From the open doorway, he could see Taylor sitting in the plush chair in the corner, humming a tune under her breath, with Bennett sleeping across her chest. Taylor had her eyes closed, but, as if she could sense his presence, opened them and smiled. He walked fully into the room, where it was quiet save for Bennett's baby snores and Taylor's low singing.

When he reached where they were sitting, Taylor looked up at him and whispered, "She wouldn't let me leave."

He had to bite back a chuckle, asking, "She wouldn't let you, or you didn't want to?"

Taylor blushed, but confessed. "A bit of both."

He couldn't help but notice how effortless this looked for Taylor, and how right this felt for them as a couple. He always thought that one day he would be a father, but that image is steadily becoming clearer, especially as he sees Taylor holding the baby. He knew she would be the best mother, but kept his thoughts at that, not wanting to get ahead of himself.

They both looked down at Bennett, before Taylor wondered, "Where are Wy and Ellie?"

"Knocked out on the couch."

Bennett moved in Taylor's arms, and they both stopped talking, staring down and making sure that the baby didn't wake up. When she stopped moving and stayed asleep, they both exhaled.

"I should probably put her in her crib." Taylor admitted, though she was still holding the girl in her arms.

"I would offer to do it, but I think she might cry if I take her away from you."

Taylor rolled her eyes, and transferred the baby from her arms into the crib. Both of them walked out of the room, baby monitor in hand, to come back downstairs. Wyatt and Elliotte were still sleeping across the couch, and Taylor went back into the kitchen to clean up the coloring supplies they had left out. Travis trailed behind her, picking up crayons that had fallen onto the floor and putting them in their box.

As they were straightening up the mess from the afternoon, Taylor said in a quiet tone, "I really love the girls."

Travis stopped what he was doing, turning to Taylor and pulling her into a hug. "They love you just as much." He pressed a kiss onto her hair, squeezing her tighter.

Taylor pulled back slightly to look up at him. "I can't wait to be their aunt, officially, you know?" She had a coy smirk on her face, and she kissed him once before walking off to finish shoving toys into their respective bins.

"Dropping hints, Tay?" He picked up the last toy off the floor, coming to drop it into the bin beside Taylor.

"Maybe I am." She shrugged.

He bent down to tell her, "Don't worry, it won't be long now."

On the flight back to Kansas that evening, with Taylor napping in the seat beside him, he sent out a message to make an appointment with a jeweler.
